I finally found a local dealer who sells for MSRP. They just got their first one last night and of course it's sold. He said he will put me on the list but there are about 40 in front of me. Am I not able to go ahead and place an order so I'm on a REAL list...a list that Dodge knows about?

Or is it only allotments that get sent to the Dealers? I guess I'm confused about all the talk of lists, allotments and orders.

As of 30 seconds ago, this is what I'm starting to figure out. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I should be able to go back to this dealer and place an actual order and at least get a VON with my name attached to it. Hopefully before TOO long that will turn into a VIN. To place an order, is only a deposit required? Balance due upon delivery?

Just being on a dealer list does no good, unless you know the dealer personally, because those on the list are all trying to get the few allotted cars that they will receive, possibly completely different options from what you want, take it or leave it.

Another dealer told my buddy just now that the cars getting actually ordered by customers are for MSRP, but the cars that come in from allotment are being auctioned and/or sold $20k+ over MSRP.

I would keep looking for another dealer. Maybe someone on this thread can give you some good advice. Having 40 cars ahead of you isn't a good thing.
    Good luck.

Your dealer just has you on the "list". His list. With the allocation system no way they will get 40 cars but if that opens up you could get to order.
Some dealers are taking deposits but you sit with NOTHING.

I would get on as many lists as I could or just find a dealer who has an available allocation to sell you a car at MSRP of slightly higher.

make sure to ask if the dealer has an allocation for your car.

So allocations are the bottom line. Doesn't matter who places an order, if they don't have a car allocated for your order, you won't get a car. Is that what I'm hearing?

For example, they get a total allotment for the year of say 6 cars....and you are the 7th order...you wait until next year? That 7th order are the people on here who still have VON's and no VIN yet?

If you were on Chrysler's list, you are correct you would have an order number but no build or delivery date. The dealer list was common here in Houston too. Every dealer I called had a list 25+ ppl long and they would put me on the dealer list "in case a spot opened up." In situations like that, I think its right of them not to try and book orders that may never get filled.

I ended up finding a dealer out of town that booked the order for me, but Im still another allotment or 2 away from build status. Seeing you are in OK, I would look north to see if maybe the colder states had some openings. KC, St Louis, Omaha or Denver dealers may have a slower market than warmer areas. Just a thought.

    Info only:
My dealer called last pm. Says they have at least 4 allotment due and nobodys name on em. They are "stand up" guys and sell at MSRP. Mine is in KZ as I type. If interested I'll give cell number out.

What state is your dealer in? Will they order a car for an out of state buyer, or does the buyer just have to take whatever shows up? I am willing to buy, anywhere, at this point!

You could try Bill Luke in Phoenix AZ they called me and was going to take my order. They wanted $2500 over MSRP & $5000 down but could not give me a VON so I passed keeping my place with a local dealer.

I can get a VON, for MSRP at a local dealer, went by there today...but they have had ZERO allocations so far...so I passed...may reconsider, but today, I passed. They have 4-5 orders ahead of me if I place an order. But since they are a smaller dealership, and had no allocations, I am doubting if they will ever get any, even with placed orders.
