So I have had my Hellcat 1 week and I am still in the painful break-in stage. Just finished my Friday night run and I noticed my Malfunction Indicator Light was on, Diagnostic Code P2172. I looked up the code online, and it was identified as a "Throttle Actuator Control System-Sudden Hi Airflow Detected." I could not find a discussion on the issue. If anyone has any more info to offer, it would be greatly appreciated.

Looks like I'll be driving my Grand Cherokee SRT this weekend. the Hellcat will likely be off to the dealer on Tuesday.

Are there any modifications on the engine? (Catch Can, Air Intake)

If it's not a vacuum leak then it's likely faulty MAP sensors. None the less, the dealer diagnostic and warranty repair will get it fixed.

Check the hose attached between the intake plenum too the pcv.

See pic below. The hose in the pic is missing but you see each connector at about the 11pm and 2am positions from the yellow oil distick handle.

Make sure either sides connectors are still attached.

P2172-HIGH AIRFLOW/VACUUM LEAK DETECTED (INSTANTANEOUS ACCUMULATION)

    Theory of Operation

The purpose of this monitor is to detect an instantaneous or gradual change in the intake manifold vacuum that exceeds the calibrated high or low thresholds. The PCM uses the MAP Sensor base model and the Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) Motor position value to create a calculated MAP model value. The calculated MAP model is then compared to the sensed MAP Sensor Signal. The sensed MAP reading is based on the average of all four MAP Sensor inputs to the PCM. The PCM uses this comparison to detect vacuum leaks or restrictions in the intake air system.

NOTE: Do not use shop air to clean out the MAP Sensor when diagnosing a MAP Sensor related fault as this will cause internal damage to the sensor.

    When Monitored and Set Conditions
When Monitored: This diagnostic runs when the following conditions are met:

    • Engine running at or above idle (not cranking).
    • No MAP Sensor DTCs.
    • No Throttle Body related DTCs.
    • No 5-Volt Reference DTCs.
    • No Crank/Cam Sensor DTCs.
    • DTC P2174 is not present.

    Set Conditions:

    • The PCM detects an increase in the difference between the actual Map Pressure sense and calculated Map Sensor value, beyond a calibrated limit, due to a loss of vacuum.

    Default Actions:

    • The MIL light will illuminate.
    • The ETC light will flash.

    Possible Causes
VACUUM LEAK <<< most likely cause
    RESTRICTION IN THE EXHAUST SYSTEM
    INTERNAL ENGINE MECHANICAL COMPONENTS
RESISTANCE IN THE 5-VOLT SUPPLY CIRCUIT
RESISTANCE IN ONE OF THE MAP SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUITS
RESISTANCE IN ONE OF THE MAP SENSOR GROUND CIRCUITS
MAP SENSOR <<< 2nd most likely cause
    POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)

A big thanks to everyone who posted a reply!
    Rayzazoo, stock engine.
TallCool1, connectors still attached, one was loose though, not certain that's the issue. Wouldn't know?
FC, your response is consistent with other sites. Thanks.
Any closer to a solution, no, not here?

I can tell you this. Friday I was reading through several posts on similar issues on other sites. One stuck in my mind, although I can't find it now. The dude indicated the MIL came on with similar fault code (or I think the same one) when he had 1/4 tank of fuel. When he filled the tank, the light disappeared. So I filled the car this afternoon. Nothing. Drove home. Shut her down. Started her a half hour later and shazaam, MIL gone. Fault code still there. Probably has to be cleared.

I am still taking it to the dealer Tuesday.

    Thanks again everyone!

Probably just a coincidence that the MIL went out. Takes 3 good trips to extinguish the MIL.

    Sorry for delayed response.

Simply put Cardude99: faulty MAP sensor. Replaced. No problems since :0)
