In early November, I was contacted by a forum member inquiring about CQuartz Finest for the new Hellcat he was ordering. Not much more than a month later (surprisingly fast, considering the wait times many have had in the past), the car was delivered and brought to me last week for paint correction and protection.

Upon its afternoon arrival, rain-soaked roads had the car looking a bit filthy:

Up first on the agenda was dealing with some left over adhesive from a shipping tag on the windshield:

The simplest (and one of the safest) solution in a situation like this is to use common mineral spirits to soften and dissolve the adhesive, coupled with a razor blade to collect it from the surface. The result is clean, clear, and pristine glass:

Following a thorough rinseless wash, the paint was thoroughly inspected for defects requiring attention. Since the car was found to be in overall good condition and only spot correction would be necessary, these sections were marked with post-it flags to make finding them again easy:

After calling it a night for the first day and shutting down the lights in the shop, I was struck by the way the light coming through the window highlighted the lines and scoop on the hood; so I had to stop and take a picture...

The next day, it was time to tackle correction on the areas of the car where the paint had been de-nibbed on the assembly line. Often times when factory workers sand and polish dirt nibs out of paint, they inadvertently leave behind stray 'pig tails' from their DA sanding, and haze from the high speed DA polishing used to remove their sanding marks. This results in a hazy surface, as seen here:

This demonstrates why paint correction is often necessary even on cars in "factory new" condition like this car, which had only 217 miles on it at the time all of these pictures were taken.

Once correction tasks were out of the way, the entire finish was final polished to maximize depth and gloss:

And two coats of CQuartz Finest were added to further enhance the finish, and provide years of durable protection:

Here are a few 'beauty shots' of this sinister feline, prepped and ready for a Christmas Eve delivery:

The day was a bit hazy/overcast... sun shots were tough to get!

It did peek through for a few seconds, though.

Hope you've enjoyed the thread as much as I enjoyed working on this car!

Stunning work. Biased as mine is pitch black but for me it was the only colour for my Cat. My niece has found someone local that can apply CQuartz in the UK. My paint was pretty good from the factory but a professional detail and CQuartz will be done early on in the New Year. Stupid question perhaps. If you jet wash your car does it impair the CQuartz protection.

    Thank you!

Thanks! There can't be very many Hellcats in the UK; for as many heads as you probably turn with it now, I can only imagine how many more you'll turn once it has been detailed and CQuartzed!

I assume by 'jet wash' you mean pressure washing? That won't affect the coating at all, if anything it makes flushing any dirt off the surface very efficient as compared to a typical garden hose.

    Hope that helps!

Hi Charles! I see your in Lansing...I am in Saginaw and should be picking up my Pitch Black after the first of the year.

Wondered how long does it take to do all that you did to this one in the post and how much? I'd love to have it done but it would be waiting until spring and then driving it down, staying in the area until complete and then driving back. Makes me wish I had an enclosed trailer I could bring it down in.

Thank you again for your business, Chris! I know Larry and his crew will take great care of you for the clear bra; if you decide to have the film coated in the spring (or sooner) just let me know.

You have a PM. Thanks Terry!

    Thank you!

Cost can vary depending on the condition of your car's paint, what your particular installer charges for paint correction/etc.; your best bet will be to talk to the installer nearest to you (see the map at Find an Installer - CQUARTZ Finest ) for details. It would be safe to say that you'll be looking at a low-four-figure dollar amount, though.
