If you had the ability to change to a different blower unit, would the car still be a Hellcat?

  1. NO, it's part of the engine designed by Dodge

    59.0%
  2. Yes, it's the engine not the blower that makes it a Hellcat

    41.0%

Looking into the future we see both the engine internal components and blower getting maxed out, the internals are something people don't see but the supercharger is something that is unique to the Hellcats, so if a different blower from lets say Kenne Bell or Whipple be used would the car still be a Hellcat?

Kenne Bell and Whipple of been making blowers for the SVT Mustangs for years. I see many 03 Cobra's with aftermarket blowers and as well as GT500's etc. No one has a problem with them swapping out the stock blowers.

I would be concerned more about resale value if resale value means anything to the owner. Otherwise to me it is still a Hell Cat just like my 2013 Challenger SRT is still a 2013 Challenger SRT after I installed the 426 stroker..

It's already an extensively modified Hellcat... resale value is out the window.

Let the Blower Wars begin the Hellcat is still a Hellcat regardless of who's blower is setting on top of the mill it is still a Hellcat Motor, just enough is Never Enough and too much is just right as the old drag race saying goes.

I get your question, though I think we'll see many posts from people that don't. It's not a question of which is better, but if changing the s/c declassifies it as a true Hellcat.

IMO (just IMO) a Hellcat is the engine as a package, not the stand-alone block. Changing the supercharger... even for one that's higher quality... does make it something a bit different. It's still a Challenger, it's still an SRT... but it's somehow just a little off from being a "Hellcat" since the name was derived from the motor as it was offered. The same as if you had let's say... a Magnum SRT8 and dropped a Viper engine into it. It can no longer be an SRT8 because it's not a V8 (and Dodge considers vehicles with that motor an SRT10).

    Now....

Does that matter? Hell no. Any Hellcat owner and most anyone else is still going to consider it a Hellcat. Only a purist would differ in their opinion.

Some will argue "If you put a Ford engine into a Chevelle, it's still a Chevelle", but they weren't paying attention to how the Hellcat actually got its name. The motor (as a whole) makes all the difference in this car.

Now that we've seen photographic evidence of a destroyed supercharger, we know it certainly does have limitations, and we have reached them rather quickly. For what you're clearly going for... you'll need a swap. I'm excited to see how far you take this.

My .02 cents: If I were doing this, I'd go all the way. Cut a hole in the hood and let a massive 8-71 stick up outta there. Maximum impact visually and performance-wise.

Begs the question: If you change the pulleys is it still a Hellcat?

At what point is the Hellact no longer a Hellcat, but something that warrants another name (beside Modified Hellcat)?
