Wow, that was a quick response! Thanks for the build date of April 2014. I'm purchasing this car and it has about 1360 miles on it. Is there anything different from a pre-production model and a regular production model? Im going to fly in and drive it home is there anything in particular I should be looking at during inspection of the vehicle? I've never driven a Hellcat just seen one at a local dealership that was of course sold already. I've never even heard one running in person. Not that many in southern CA. Anyway I've been on the sidelines for a while. Just looking for a little help. Thanks in advance.

I didn't think the pre-production models were going to be sold to the public?... WTF? Did I miss something?...

Side emblems should say "Supercharged" instead of a Cat's head & Look for stains on the driver's seat from all those wannabe's who write for the car rags...

There was another thread on this same topic pretty recently and one of the forum members provided quite a number of reasons against trying to register and use a pre-production vehicle. You should find that thread. One reason was that it may not meet emissions and another was that it may have been pretty abused. He did point out that if it was an executive's car that may be an exception. Ultimately the person who posted the thread ran a carfax and found it was damaged. Good luck.

    Some get auctioned..some get crushed.

Those might be 1300 hard miles. If you follow the break in procedure, then the first 1000 miles you should be easy on it.

Unless you know the history, those first 1000 on that car might have been hammer down. Unless it's a deal you can't pass up,...

If it was one of the SRT ride along cars, you know it is durable! Everytime I see one of those events it just amazes me how the vehicles can take that back to back and all day long!

The very early builds, aka "mules" are often pieced together with various pre-production parts and are not saleable. These are typically sent to the crusher. After "mules", There are 3 main stages of pre-production builds:

After the design is complete, there are three builds in the process called S0, S1 and S2. As the first attempt, the SO is used to identify potential issues. This is where the Error Mistake Proofing (EMP) process kicks in.

The S0 is the first build attempt and is supposed to be completely production representative. This initial build is sometimes at the plant, and sometimes at the pilot facility (Chrysler Development Center) with a lot of the same equipment that will be used at the plant. Employees from the plant, known as a pilot team, are brought in to look at the process and determine if there is a more effective way to build the vehicle or design the parts.

The S1 is the second level of production. Everything is supposed to be as close to production as possible and it has modifications that were discovered and changed during S0. S2 is the final pre-production build stage and is done right before launch.

The S0 and S1 builds are subject to the hardest tests and most "abuse" (track, climate testing, etc.). The pre-production vehicles being sold to the public would be final stage builds (S2). These are pretty much identical to what comes off the line at the retail launch. Many of the S2 builds are given to FCA executives as daily drivers to observe and note any quirks or issues. "Fast Feedback" reports are compiled and submitted to the QC and other departments.

The vehicle mentioned by the OP is an S2 build and was a company exec vehicle. S2 builds were started in April 2014.

So are there any markings on these cars that would show if any of you "in the know" had a hand in building our cars? I think one of the line workers used to be on one of the forums!

Nope, they are run down the same line as the final production models.
