?

If your differential failed, was it...

  1. Case failure (like mounts broke from casting)

Cole posted a pic a few days ago in Racist Cat's slowly coming together thread of a differential failure and it was the mounts breaking away from the castings. I always assumed it was the gears; not the a case failure. It was noted in the thread that this can happen when 900+ HP was going through the drivetrain.

My QQ is: If you have had a diff failure, what was it? Internal, Case failure or Other (please comment).

This information will help those contemplating HP upgrades what to do (i.e. nothing, Diff swap, 9" Ford swap, etc....)

    Thanks in advance. Bray

Broke 3 out of 4 of my aluminum diff mounts with stock power. Modded to 900+ and took 2 sets of side gears out on a stock 3.70 and a 3.90. Broke a 1400hp CV joint on my 9" setup and had a failure on the Wavetrac locker.

Yes, M6. I think the cv joint on the axle was a fluke. The wavetrac also. They blamed the locker failure on lubrication, but I think it was a screw up from the beginning. Either way the axle and locker were replaced with no questions asked.

I did not expect the housing to break either.
I figured it was a r&p failure or spider gears.

Until a stronger housing is made, or a brace, I will keep a fusible link in the system. At the moment it will be street tires.
