    1) is a $999 doc fee normal?
    2) is $670 of government fee normal? I assume this is title and license
    3) is sales tax figured on just the price of the car or is DOC fee and Government fees added to price of car and then tax figured on that sum?
    4) I am in MN, I think sales tax on vehicles is 6.5%, please confirm.

    Thanks

6.5 % is correct as far as I know. I paid reg. tax 781.00 plate fee 6.00 safety fee 3.50 transfer tax10.00 transfer fee 7.25 Deputy filing fee 10.00 Wheelage tax 10.00 document fee 75.00,,,, Total License and fees--827.00 plus the sales tax, I too am in MN. I guess I would have no idea what the $999 doc fee is, that would be close to the lic. fee but then I don't know what the 670 is. In fees I paid the 827 plus the sales tax.

I think doc fees are just made up fees by the dealer.

    You are correct.

Doc fee = filing fee = admin fee = secretary fee = (franchise/dealer) owner spending money fee or his wifes weekend shopping money fee!!!! It's all the same fee!!!

$999. doc fees seems very high

$670 gov fee ( should be state DMV registration and plate fee???? also seems high

They don't tax the fees ( at least here in WI ) Taxing the registration fee would be a double tax.
Possible some states could charge a sales tax on the doc fee just like they do on an additional dealer mark up ( ADM fee )

Plate fee seems about right, plus 6.5% sales tax on the BASE price of the car and just some minor fees is what I paid.

My favorite dealer in Iowa had nearly no BS fees included.

Doc fees piss me off. All it is is just another way for dealers to squeeze a few hundred more out of you after you agree on a price. Imagine coming to an agreement on buying anything else or having work done to your home, and then you get hit you with an extra cost for paperwork. It's legalized robbery.

The other scam is gass guzzler fee. That's a way for the government to get more money out of certain cars. Then on top of that you have to pay sales tax on the gas guzzler tax because that tax is built into the cost of the car.

Now you got me all worked up!!!!

Agree entirely! Normally I refuse to pay a doc processing fee, but with this car you don't have much bargaining power.

Doc fees are normally a double sided blade. They are used to pay the back end of employees that arent sales and they can't adjust the price due to if they drop the doc fee on you but charge another customer more then it causes issues. I've seen some dealers get rid of it or drop it but certain states support doc fees up to crazy amounts. NY is $75 maximum where as your state is $699

The whole "Doc fee" makes me crazy, here in FL it ranges from $399 - $999. I can remember when this 1st started in the early 90's @ $89, supposedly to cover the cost of the person getting the tag paperwork to the state & it was total BS then. Now totally out of control with some dealers now charging 2 different fees a "Dealer fee" of $700+ AND a "Doc fee" of $200

The stupid, useless dealers ASSociation here supports it it a big way & gives dealers that have tried to significantly lower or drop it a rash of shite.

Net is - it's just another way to gouge the customer & ladle more profit into the deal. Almost impossible to get them to wave it these days, so I just subtract the fees from whatever I intend to offer for the car. With the Cats in demand & no wiggle room on the price, anyone buying in FL will be stuck with this as yet another add-on to the bottom line.

This thread looks a little old but didn't want to start another thread...
My question is? if I live in CA and buy my Hellcat out of state, do I get charged sales tax for the out of state sales tax and then again when I register it in CA? or does the out of state dealer collect CA state tax for me? does anyone know how this works???
    Thanks Much for any replies...

I have done this a couple times. With my Hellcat I purchased it in PA, they charged me Ohio sales tax and they paid the state. I showed proof the tax was paid and Ohio did not charge me again. When I levee in Fl I bought a car out of state. Because I was an out of state buyer sales tax was not charged. When I registered in FL I had to pay the FL sales tax to register the car. Your local county DMV will tell you how it will work. They probably have a website that will answer your question.
