I'm in Northern California... Been using a radar detector for over 5 yrs... I haven't had any X or K band police radar sources yet. It's always Ka, POP, or Laser. The filtering the Passport does is configurable for K and X band but not for Ka. I've only had Uniden and Passport detectors so I cannot speak about a comparison between Passport and V1.

We do have a 9500ix in the Viper and a Max in the 392. I like the functionality of the Max much better than the 9500ix. The OLED screen of the Max does not pose a problem for me. My husband likes the 9500ix better because of the LED. The 392 is technically "my" car because it's my daily driver and my husband is retired so he gets the Viper by default. This doesn't preclude me from driving the V10 though... I have logged 90% of the mileage on the Viper.

If you're in the market for a basic no frills but effective detector, go with the 9500ix. If you want a more optionable detector go with the Max. The Max outshines the 9500ix when you use the optional added mobile device pairing which shows you GPS locations of warning sources.

Or you can go with the Redline which I've had before ... It's shielded so is undetectable by radar detector detectors

Great point. I was torn between the redline and the max360. Both great.

Someone mentioned a stealth mode so leo's cant tell from behind. Arent these things legal in all but two or three states? Just wondering why thats an overall benefit. I dont own any detectors but am considering something so im watching this thread...

I've been pulled over before with my radar detector in my convertible so it was highly visible to everyone - the officer said "you know that's not legal" and I said "yes it is" and he said "no it's not" and I said "yes it is" ...

Hubby told me I was psycho for arguing w the guy even though I knew I was 100% legal with having my radar detector. I guess "guilt by association" is why people like to hide their detectors. But wait... You own a HEMI powered automobile that kicks a lot of butt in the acceleration department ... Hmm-- I tell everyone "I get to the speed limit quicker than you" ... I mean, gee ... The Viper can't get out of 2nd gear if you keep it at 65.

Ohh and I know radar detectors are illegal in VA - not sure about the other 2 states.

Ok so really nothing other than trying not to test the officer's knowledge or patience. I really hate how they will argue like that and clearly be wrong. Has happened to me in the past, I actually had to convince him to call in and check before issuing me a ticket. I was right and he was mad. I think if i buy one i will actually have a current copy of the local state's radar law attached to my reg lol. Save the time and argument.
Think I read somewhere Washington state was one of the states too...

Pretty sure if i smile in a low cut dress i will be thrown in the clink so i definitely need to up my game!
Wonder if there any good radar/laser combo units, or if they even make those. I'm in CT and have been reading how there seems to be a laser trend here, but radar pretty much everywhere else mostly.

Slowpoke387 don't forget matching stiletto heels!

Redline, 9500ix, Max all have radar/LIDAR detection capabilities. I looked up info on legal use...

Radar detectors are illegal in VA and Washington, D.C., and on military bases including on VA hospitals properties (which I know since I've been to the VA hospital here many times)

Laser jammers are illegal in the following states:
    California
    Colorado
    Illinois
    Minnesota
    Oklahoma
    South Carolina
    Tennessee
    Texas
    Utah
    Virginia

Great info. Those three have dual capabilities so do they automatically tell you whats hitting you or do you have to set it to radar or laser?
I'm in a legal state which is good. Now which one to buy, scrolling up and re-reading...

    Slowpoke387 yes, no...

Yes it shows you what's hitting you depending on the source wavelength (X, K, Ka, Laser) and no you don't have to change settings.

Wiretap is definitely a good idea. Blendmount also offers a mirror attachment solution so it can be attached to the rear view mirror stem instead of the windshield.
