Mine whined from mile one in the 30-55 range. When warm it is not so bad. It is a function of the gear lash in the differential. We can change, it may or may not fix it, the luck of the draw. I got a tight engine and shit rear end. I will take the tight engine.

When I eat too many bean and cheese burritos, I get my share of 'whine' from my rearend alright. Thankfully, my hellcat has no such problem! I mainly only hear the whining from my car when I pop the clutch, but it's really more of a squeeling, and once the tires finally hook, the sound stops.

The original 2.62 diff never whined and the 3.09 I installed doesn't whine either. The number 1 cause of a whiny rear is not breaking in properly. Follow your owner's manual break end schedule and the rear will stay quiet.

Mine has a slight whine on decel or very light load at 55ish. Doesn't do it at any other speed. I'm not going to bother with it as it's barely noticeable. If it gets worse, I will bring it.

Well after waiting until 5900 miles, I have to have my rear end replaced. The car has not been driven crazy hard and it was broke in by the numbers. It was evaluated twice by the head tech at my dealership and FCA instructed them to replace it. They have done a total of 9 rear ends at my dealership. I drop car off the tomorrow for the swap. They had a unit on hand for the replacement.

Have them check the driveshaft center carrier bearing while they have it up on the lift.

Also, what noises were you hearing and in what MPH range?

My Charger SP has a slight whine at varying speeds, but not bad enough for me to care (at this point, anyway).
I haven't noticed it on my HC, but I am just about finished installing an aluminum DS, so I probably will soon enough!

It was a whining/humming sound after the car gets warm (5 to 10 minutes). Very noticeable at 35 to 45 mph. It has been getting noticeably louder of the past 500 miles.

Mine has whined from day one with 8 miles on the clock, before purchase I also drove a 5 mile brand new 2016 and 9 mile Scat Pack, same exact noise.

Was it under acceleration, deceleration and/or under light throttle?

FCA claims that some whine is to be expected because the rear differential is "straight-toothed geared."

I think the root of the issue is being caused by too much driveshaft play/failure (carrier bearing) which results in abnormal wear on the rear differential; causing backlash. All said, definitely a defect and should be replaced under warranty.
