At around 70 mph. Cruise on. Loud high pitch coming from rear end area when going up hill. Stops when going down. 2016. A8. 6000 miles. Put dealer additive in at 5000 miles for clunking from diff. On slow sharp turns. Anyone else experiencing this?

I have the same whine but no clunking. A little whine is almost expected with these cars. Its when it growls and grinds is when theres a problem.

Still a little whine at high speeds after the new driveshaft installed. New rear differential oil seems to quiet it down.

The most successful at 99% reducing the whining noise has been swapping to 75W-140 and adding 4 oz of friction modifier.

I have same type vehicle as you. I have a whine coming from the rear end that is most predominant at 57 MPH. No growling. What is this dealer additive they put in ? My dealer does not believe me when I tell him and knows of no fix or TSB.

    Thank You

What gear/RPM/range mph are you in when you hear the sound?

Does the sound occur on acceleration?

Does the sound occur on deceleration?
