I had my HC Charger towed yesterday after a coolant leak. It turned out to be a bad radiator drain cap gasket. To get the car into neutral while not running, you remove the plastic trey right next to the shifter, a plastic cap, and then pull a lever with a red strap. Video showing someone else doing that is below.

On my car that was a metal tab on the right side of the lever (in the center when the lever is in the down position) that prevented the lever from going back down and back into park. When I tried to bend it out of the way (b/c it had to be moved) it broke off. This is a very thing metal tab about the size of a dime or nickel. I am wondering if is in place on other cars and what it looks like before someone messes with putting the car into neutral. I was hoping some good Samaritan would look a take a pic. The neutral lever is spring loaded and locks in the up position, so I do not think the clip is needed.

    Thanks in advance.

Hope these help. That tab just looks like a safety clip to make it snap so it's not pulled without you knowing it I guess. I don't see how it could hurt to have it off. I did open it up and pull the lever and was able to snap it back in place but it takes just enough effort so that it can't be done accidentally

Great pix., now I see that some others are as picky as I am.
Love the way the strap is cleaned, smoothed and properly placed. A good wipe down on the leftover dirt is always appreciated as well!
That's exactly how I will be doing it when the time comes.
Congrats on a job extremely well done!

Because I had seen this awhile back, I was able to assist a hellcat charger who ran out of gas on a cruise yesterday and we needed to push his car a bit to get it off the side of the road. The "tab" actually broke off but I too see this as no big deal. It did not slide enough rearward to clear the mechanism being pulled vertical so when I tried to bend it with a screw driver it broke off. Thanks for posting the photos! They definitely helped!!
