From a guy who has been literally his neighbor here in Chanhassen, MN (the purple house is around the corner, his uncle would drive the purple BMW every day, Paisley is within two miles of my house), I would like to start a thread in his honor. We have lost our local celeb, but we all have lost one of the major artists of our time. RIP buddy, thanks for everything you shared.

Heard about this yesterday evening. I was shocked and saddened. A lot of his music wasn't up my alley, but I can still appreciate his talent. Some of his less mainstream stuff was really fantastic.

From what I have heard, he was a pretty reserved and down to earth guy too. Far too young to be found unresponsive.

You know, I am surprised he did not get one! He did love to ride motorcycles, and did it often at night FYI, but, driving a car...not so often if at all could be the reason. One would look good on the International news parked out back there at the studio.

I grew up in the 80's (graduated High School in 88) I have still somehow never saw the movie "Purple Rain" but I know all of the words to most of the songs from that album and several of his later songs.

    Good thread DGatzby!

Amazing he was only 57, given his almost 40-years of albums. Very talented and unique in all phases of the creative process.

RiP to one of the most talented guitarists of all time. Wasn't much into his music but loved to hear his guitar riffs.

He had talent although I didn't care for his music. He was a little on the strange side.

I think you probably aren't alone in your assessment......but I think there were many that felt the same way about Hendrix, Joplin etc. at the time of their passing.

The true measure......was his impact on music for many decades while he was alive......and it will continue now after his passing. His talent will also be measured by those artists whom he helped with their careers and collaborated with. I think it isn't necessary to enjoy all an artists music......just be able to recognize true talent and their impact in steering the future of a genre of music.
