Had the wheels off today for C.Quartz treatment and was surprised by the amount of visible rust. Seems like a brand new car with 800 miles on it shouldn't be showing this so early. Am I wrong or is this to be expected?
Can or should anything be done? CQ 001.JPG

Its fine just normal surface rust. While unsightly yes its nothing damaging to the part. Some black spray paint up there and your good to go. I painted mine within 100 miles good to go.

Yes they dont paint the undercarriage parts very thick these days. Lots of areas on the suspension are machined and left bare.

I touched up all of the black suspension parts with POR-15. Google it. You can buy it in semi-gloss black from Summit.

you should look under my 13 gt500 if you think your HC is bad.....its a convertible, so it has extra stuff under it...all the welds are rusting, all the suspension parts....my HC sparkles underneath compared with my gt500......suspension parts like your seeing arent painted well...they will completely rust some day....its a car, not a restored show car....not meant to be perfect

on my mustang i have bolts that dont even appear to have any coating on them at all...round head carriage type bolts....100% rust......also found 2 large scraped on the unibody that were rusting....after some research on the gt500 forums i found many cars have the same marks...they came scraped and ready to rust from day 1 from the factory....be glad you dont have that.....i sanded, epoxy primed and painted the area's with matching factory primer....

your worried about nothing.....in the end its a car, it will rust

    I agree with huggee

keep it out of the salt.....& rust will remain where it belongs........on untreated suspension components.

That rust shouldn't be a problem... if your tire falls off though, I was never here. ;)

Mine sat in snow in black hood hell for 60 days and looked like crap when delivered. FCA said that under body rust was not covered under warranty. I treated everthing under the car that was rusty with Eastwood Textured Rust Encapsulator Black Aerosol 15oz

    Great Stuff.
