I currently live in Missouri. For my wife's doctoral program looks like we will be moving to Indianapolis. My business runs out of St. Louis so I will be required to travel back and forth once a month or so for closings etc. I normally drive at night or early in the AM to avoid traffic. I will pretty much be taking interstate 70 the entire way.

In MO you can plea bargain tickets. I have been stopped a few times throughout the years and have no points on my license and nothing but "non moving" violations. Basically they drop the charges for $ and you pay a lawyer 50.00. Even at 20mph over it's not a big deal at all.

If I am driving through how "friendly" are IL and IN? Does it work similarly? I normally do around 85mph in a 70mph almost the entire drive.

Indiana will usually let you get by with 10mph over on the interstate. Much over that they will probably give you an award! Can't offer anything on Illinois.

Thanks! Do you know if they will "reduce" tickets to a non moving like in Mo? I have an Escort redline and behave for the most part but I figure if I'm doing 300 mile stretches at a time I may get stopped at some point.

    Hey VV

In Illinois it all depends on the officer. They will often write the ticket for a lesser speed than you were actually going just to help you out. If you are way over the limit...thqt obviously won't happen. In most cases you can go online, plead guilty, pay a fine and complete a 4 hour online "traffic school" driver-ed course. If you are more than 20mph over, the online traffic school becomes an 8 hour course. The bad news is that you can't fast forward through the course. It takes 4 or 8 hours respectively. There is a required quiz after each section so you can't just let it run while you do something else!
In any case, better than the alternative!

They won't change it to a non-moving violation but if you complete traffic school, it doesn't go on your record and your insurance won't find out. We don't follow a point system in Illinois, either.

I had heard that IL was more strict in regards to violations. Do you know how many times you can take traffic school? In MO it used to be an option but you could only do it once ever 3 years or so. I had not been stopped for 4 years till this past fall. However when I was 17-18 I got to be on a first name basis with my lawyer and his staff. :(

i am not sure, with the first ticket and traffic school you will get an automatic supervision period of 90 days or 6 months...not quite sure so be careful not to blow it during this time period because if you do, the first ticket will not be expunged even though you completed traffic school.

You can do traffic safety school twice. First is four hours and second is 8 hours. If you receive 3 movers within a 12 month period, your license gets suspended.

    indiana/Learn the word-
"Deferred", admit, pay fine plus about $100 more. Don't get caught for a year IN THAT COUNTY and it just disappears. No points/no insurance notifications-- if you've been good to this point of course- and it's all handled over phone/prompts

got 3 speeding tickets in 2 months once...lucky 1 was in IL, so it didnt count against my WI points...had to be a good boy for 1 year to get all my points back....never got a ticket in one of my fast cars.....its always in the family or work vehicle

if you get a ticket in IL just pay it and be done.........ive gotten one there...
