Trinity (5W-50 oil), with a 2.3L Eaton supercharger, cycles coolant (temperatures up to 230 degrees) through oil-to-water cooling. Extended track driving will raise oil temps closer to 300, which is why open-track fans need the Track Cooling package. The PCM will start closing the throttle and limiting engine speed when the coolant hits 251; de-rating the engine.

LT4 (0W-30 oil) (current without the added heat exchangers of the new 2017 ZL1), the 1.7L Eaton Style Roots blower cycles the coolant (up to 248 degrees) through a single front mounted intercooler mounted right in front of the engine radiator. The LT4 coolant to oil cooler is mounted next to the catalytic converter. The rated horsepower is only valid under normal highway use for a limited period of full-throttle time. Once the air charge temperature elevates to levels where detonation and knock begin, the engine controller limits ignition and boost; de-rating the engine.

LS7 (15W-50 oil) with a naturally aspirated 7.0L engine, like most road racing engines, the Z/28's dry-sump system includes an engine oil cooler. It is an oil-to-coolant heat exchanger originally developed for the C6 Corvette ZR1 and is bolted to the oil pan on the driver side of the engine. The large-capacity reservoir, combined with a high efficiency air-to-oil cooler, provides necessary engine oil cooling under the demands of the engine’s power output. The Small-Block does not have coolant flowing completely around the valve seat inserts. Because of the siamesed valve seats, there's no cooling at all in the "valve bridge" between the ports. When things get extra hot, you want rapid transfer of heat away from the valves and seats and into the water jacket. For that reason, the exhausts use "copper-infiltrated" seat inserts.

Hellcat (0W-40 oil), with a 2.4L whipple-like twin screw blower, generates less heat due to supercharger efficiency and cycles the coolant (temperature does not exceed 220 degrees) through two intercoolers; with the supercharger coolant entering the first, driver side mounted intercooler before heading out for the main center mounted main intercooler. Hellcat employs a front mounted oil to air intercooler mounted behind the passenger side fog light opening. This system is so effective that the Hellcat can be driven for 20 laps on a 3.1-mile road course in 100-degree ambient heat without the engine power de-rating.

Of note, more on the topic of carbon-ceramics: Cadillac's data showed that, to realize the benefits of carbon-ceramic brake rotors over iron ones, the pieces would have to be quite large (in this case, larger than the stock 15.35 in rotors). For reference, the Z06 uses 15.5in carbon ceramic matrix rotors on their Z07 performance package). The listed benefits of carbon ceramic brakes are 50% less weight than iron rotors, they do not corrode, and should last longer. Yeah they're chasing the magic 707... still can't get there... and the best part our 707 is just a carrot... a minor tweak by Dodge up goes our number.;) It has to be discouraging for the Bowtie & Blue Ovals guys.

I don't they need to hit 707. Its the rwhp that matters. The ZL1 is lighter and shouldn't have the heat soak problem. The 10 speed auto will make it fly.

I think that is accounting for the sunroof weight. Without it, and you'll probably have the weight of the 2015.

Sunroof is optional equipment on a 2016 at the price of $1,995. I remember when the sunroof on a Challenger was a $995 option.

Correction on the ZL1: It is 640 hp and 640 tq, not 650. It's detuned so it doesn't compete with the Z06.

Agreed. But the Hellcat also makes well over 707 from trap speeds recorded (rwhp like you say), and will do it over and over.

While the ZL1 will be by far the best Camaro they ever built (expect for those 2000's F bodies of course ;)) it will not be as fast as the Z06, but the front end "openness" leads me to believe it will be a more consistent car. You KNOW GM is already at work on the next Vette...and it will be a CRAZY machine (as if the current C7 isn't already - probably the best all around car for straight line, twisty's, comfort, and price...IMO)

I think the ZL1 will be a dynamite car, just like the Hellcat is, and certainly just like the GT500 is

Very true, I'll update once they get the ZL1 spec sheet published as the only data they've got is the SAE dyno Z06 and CTSV specs.
