This post is for my dad. He has a 2015 charger scat pack. Its only happened 2 maybe 3 times but when he starts it up and begins driving, it wants to stay in low gear. It stays there until he uses his paddles to upshift. He didn't bump the shift selector over or anything obvious like that. Anybody else have this happen or have any idea what might be going on?

When this happens? First cycle the shifter handle(right to left and back again) and not the paddles to check if it is the switch? Then This may help, Start car--Open trunk and leave open and doors open. Turn on and leave on all switches lights, fan controls -radio controls. Then Shut off car. Pull both the positive and neg cables. Negative first and then positive. Go and have a beer or two. Come back in min 1/2 hour to 1 hour and turn off all switches lights etc. Reinstall batt cables -positive first and then negative last. Re-start and go for a short ride with using auto in auto mode, note any changes? Then drop it into manual mode using the stick only to shift thru each gear, note any changes? Then shift with the paddles thru each gear and note any changes? What you are doing is the same as a PC re-boot. If that fails? The mechanical switch in the shifter may be faulty and need changing.

need to see your dealer and ensure TCM and PCM are at latest software. there have been some revisions to take care of several shifting issues.

wow! why don't you ask him to stand on one leg and cluck like a chicken. lol
to discharge all capacitors and reset all modules, disconnect battery positive cable and ground it for 10 seconds.

Mine did this to me last night. I was out racing the car and it got to the point where it wouldn't leave 1st gear under normal driving (in D) if I floored it, it would shift like it should. But coming up to a stop and taking off it would hang in 1st...don't know if the trans got hot or what. I parked it and let it sit a good half hour and it was fine and hasn't done it since.
