My Hellcat arrived at the dealer. But the dealer had to replace the supercharger on this brand new Hellcat, before anything else could happen.

A new supercharger part is being shipped to the dealer. The dealer is going to remove the original supercharger and replace it with the new supercharger part. This is all being done at the dealership.

This is the way it was explained to me. Engineers have to sign off on the supercharger (approve it). To make that happen, the dealer has to take two sound bites (on a smart phone) of the engine running. One with the drive belt on and one with the drive belt off. With the drive belt off, the supercharger is off. The dealer then sends those sound bites to those engineers in Detroit. They decide. If the supercharger is making too much noise or the wrong noise, it has to be replaced. In my case, the engineers decided that the supercharger had to be replaced.

I told the dealer that I wanted a factory fresh car and not a dealer refurbished car.

Anyone ever hear of this? Comments?

That sound bite sounds ridiculous. They already ran the engine for 42 minutes before going into the car

I know! It sure sounds odd to me, too. That's why I posted. No one else has posted anything like this crazy story. That's why I think that there was damage. The vehicle was on hold at a rail yard before arriving at the dealership. Who knows?

Stuff happens. If it's built by humans, there's a chance something will go wrong. Such is life.

If it's fixed and fixed right, no big deal. It's still a "factory fresh" car, with a swapped blower.

I never heard of that sound bite procedure before either. That is what I was told. I think that there must have been physical damage.

Sounds like a bad bearing. Rare but it happens. It appears the the entire unit is being replaced, not just the bearing.

Yes, agreed. But that's a big: "If". Who knows what other damage there is?

Yes, the entire blower is being replaced. As it was explained to me, a "five hour job" for a "bolt on item".

That's what I thought at first. No big deal. But then all the doubts started. New car, new mechanic to the car, and new engine part. First year for the car. The selling dealer is a local area dealer 400 miles away. Beside the open heart surgery on the engine, what else could go wrong or be wrong? So really, the bottom line is, can I comfortably and confidently take delivery? Would you take delivery? It's more of a personal decision, of course. But man oh man, I just can't.
