    thread title edit:
the Hellcat *can burn some serious oil if you are not paying attention*

i know i read some threads on this somewhere around here but my car went through a lot of oil before i realized it. i was told by a couple different service managers not to change my oil at 500 miles and that was "old school"
and i did not need to worry about it till 5 grand or whatever the owners manual specifies.. upon speaking with a great tech, i learned that "old school" is the way to go (in his opinion and mine) and that you need to watch the oil consumption closely on this vehicle with any "spirited" driving.. i stopped reading the forums for a while and came back and saw some horror stories.. i thought the engine had already been tested and DYNOd before install so i figured it may be a little low or consume a small amount of oil.. no.. i was about 2.5 quarts shy of being really sad with a blown motor.. i am still worried about it. if only i had taken the time to pull the dipstick once in a while.. i feel like a real... dipstick... as i place my palm to my face and facepalm..

I've checked my oil the night I got it and I have Checked it two additional times in the first 500 miles. I have not had any oil burning yet. I will be taking to get its oil changed the first time I take it out of storage.

good deal. i made a very serious error not keeping an eye on it.. it will go through some oil. i guess i just got caught up with it being new and wanting to drive and drive and...drive. it says to check oil level during fuel up in the owners manual i believe..
i plan on making this a habit now.. does anyone have any feedback on what damage i may have done having 2.5 to 3.0 quarts as opposed to the full 7? its well known to always check your oil, i do not know how i made such a rookie mistake. i did not think it would go through that much with only 3,900 on the odometer..

Mine burned just a half quart during the first 500 miles. I changed the oil at 800 miles and have not burned any at all since then. Car now has 2K miles.
I seriously doubt you damaged the engine running a low oil level unless you either ran very high oil temps or it starved with low oil pressure due to sustained high g's, which is highly unlikely unless you were lapping a track.
Just monitor oil pressure. Significant bearing damage often results in low pressures.
    Good luck!

Mine burned a half quart in the first 1k miles. I changed it then and it hasn't used any since. I now have 4k miles and will change it again at 5k, then every 5k.

I freaked out the first time I checked mine and it wasn't registering on the dipstick, I felt like you did. I then found out the dipstick only shows the top 1.5 quarts of oil. I thought I had ran my car dry in first 1k, I was only 1.5 quarts low. My car does use some oil and was another 1.5 quarts low at 1,500 miles and first oil change and then again at 6,000 another 1.5 quarts low at second oil change. I check it regularly. It isn't using as much now as it did early on. I am only at 7,200 after 1 year.

I plan on changing my oil every 3,000 miles after the first 500 then the next 1,500 miles

I drove my hellcat 1,600 miles back from the dealer, only went through half a quart and has been fine since. My 08 Audi RS4 used to burn about 3/4 quart every 30-40 gallons of fuel. That ratio seemed high, so the hellcat is low maintenance in comparison based on my previous experience. It's always good to periodically check the oil on any vehicle though.

ok thanks Rham.. i think i went through 4.5 quarts of oil in roughly 4,000 miles though.. which seems..woa.

zero damage done even though it may have been low according to measure standards.. volume and pressure in the oiling system will protect you even under low measure standards.
the consumption is not at all abnormal--many of the Euro cars will not consider any diagnostics or attempt a repair unless continued use exceeds 1 qt per 500 miles..

    sleep well!

remember this too--oil consumption in a supercharged engine is normal--pressure on rings will make for blow by--all normal..
