I was installing a catch can and dropped the lock washer. It ended up falling all the way down and I heard it hit the shield under the engine. Do I need to try to get it out of there or will it just fall out on my own?

I am going to get a new lock washer, so don't need the old one.

Thanks and try to keep the abuse to a minimum.

wouldn't worry about it. you'll find it when you remove the shield to change the oil.

Pretty much guarantee you that you're not the only one to do that. It will eventually work itself out or you can put it back in stock when you do your oil change.

Sounds like a good excuse for an early oil change :)

I learned a long a long time ago not to do stuff above my pay grade. Mechanics shouldn't be cops and cops shouldn't try to be mechanics. A catch can and air filter is about the limit of what I can do with reasonable certainty that I won't screw something up. When I installed my catch can I put a rag under the area just for that reason. I don't know how many nuts bolts and washers I saved from going into the black hole by doing that.

I'm a diesel mechanic on a tugboat by trade and I think it's funny how some can't operate a screwdriver.. But then again, anytime I have to use a computer I want to break out the hammer.

Dodge owner manual Pg.109 FCA is not responsible for damages caused by dropped nuts or washers and such may void warranty.

Years ago, a mechanic used a 3 foot crowbar to tighten my fanbelt but left the crowbar under the hood. Driving home, It slipped down to the road and caused one helluva racket. My 1965 Bonneville was fine and I still have the crowbar in my garage!

Fortunately there is no room for a crowbar under our hoods:p

Back when i started driving I felt confident working on cars. I could not screw them up too bad. Now I am almost afraid to open the hood.
