I was just cruising my old Shelby forums and came across this.

This guy does this with his brand new GT350 with 5 miles on it. Brags about his break in procedure, gets all high fives on the forums.

At 53 miles, his engine seized. (He makes a brand new thread. I would go hide somewhere) A bolt flew off the bell housing and got caught in the flywheel. He says it was a factory defect. Ford paid the bill. Just when you think you've seen it all...

Too bad Ford didn't see his video before they repaired his car.

    kool video--great sounding engine!!

as far as break in periods go--internally, engines are good to go wide open right out of the box--externally, the manufacturers talk break in periods for the one offs like this guys engine.. but really what diff does it make--if it's going to fail, it won't matter if you're doing 3,000 rpm or 8,500....
I am close to pulling the trigger on a GT350 for no other reason than the sound!! Will make a great extra...

Doesn't matter, it's a GT350. It's built to be beat on. That very well could have been taken right from the dealer to the track and run balls-out, it's what it was meant to do. And Ford knows this.

The bolt should NOT have fallen out. Damn straight Ford should pick up the tab.

throwing broadies is life! however those were not good donuts, each time he spun around the car went into a non moving tire burning position. poor form, good donuts are performed by continuous circles and possibly switching directions. those were poor 180's
    just sayin, he needs practice.

My brother has worked for Toyota corporate for some time now and the stories he would tell me are just amazing, especially on the Lexus side. There are people out there that literally just added oil, but didn't change it. When the engine seized...they would good will a new one. Better to keep them a happy customer buying cars than to tell them no. Just crazy though. It was painful, but I went through the break-in as instructed.

He should have stuck to the break-in period...cuz you know bolts have a way of self-tightening when you drive the vehicle under 60 mph...without a constant throttle, etc. etc. for the 1st 500 miles... ;)

Those powertrains are hand built by a single guy...so he was hungover that day.

And with only 5000 total being built - I would bet the dealers are asking "a bit" extra.
