So after 14 days of KZ (to only travel 200 miles from the factory), my cat finally arrived at the dealer yesterday. I was all ready to go get it when I got a call from my salesman that I shouldn't come in because it had a flat tire and the tire wouldn't hold air. Apparently one of the rear tires is cut, and has to be replaced. My salesman didn't know if it was the sidewall or the tread that was cut, or whether it was like that on the truck before it was offloaded. Has anyone ever heard of this? It it likely (or even possible) that it happened before or while it was being loaded on the truck? I just can't fathom how a tire gets cut during careful operation of a car during the transfer/loading/unloading phases of shipment. I also will be very surprised if there is not rim damage, if the car has been moved on a flat tire.

The dealer is telling me that it's an "OEM tire" and the new tire won't be here from Chrysler until Monday (this happened on Thursday afternoon). I found several P Zero (summer) tires at local Discount Tire stores for $218. As far as I can tell, it's the same tire as the OEM summer tire. My salesman hasn't returned my voicemail asking if it would be possible to source the tire locally to get the car delivered today/tomorrow, rather than Monday. I also asked him if they had another one on a vehicle on the lot that could be swapped in, and I'm still waiting to hear back.

Has anyone ever heard of this happening?

Edit: I didn't mean for this to come off as a rant. This whole process has been a complete roller coaster (as it has been for a lot of you). It's hard not to get emotionally invested in it at this stage in the game. Reading your comments and learning that the tires really are different from the ones that can be had locally, makes me feel a lot better. At least I know that the dealer is doing all they can, and I really do have to wait until Monday for things to start progressing again.

I understand that stuff happens, and that this is just a car, etc. I didn't mean for it to come off as a rant. I'm simply asking if anyone has ever heard of a tire incurring damage during shipment, and if it should be possible to source the tire locally instead of waiting for the one from Chrysler.

You'll know if there is any damage to the rims...the paint is so thin that any contact with an object will be evident. I'm sure it's a simple tire issue caused by something on the lot...or just a bad tire or valve stem/sensor. Easy fix, sounds like they know what's wrong and have the tire inbound.

PS There are many variations of the tire, the OEM is very specific to Dodge's specs.

THAT tire won't come locally it's special to HC's. If you walk around the dealers parking lot watch the ground lots of stuff there to puncture a tire

lots of cars unfortunately receive damage during transport. It's always accidental. Mostly front splitter damage from loading on/off. Sorry for your miss fortune, but it'll be fixed.

Just make sure to give the car a thorough inspection upon delivery.

Thanks for this. I didn't realize these tires were any different from a regular P Zero. I guess I'll have to wait until Monday.

Does this mean that the tires have to be replaced at the dealer in the future as well? Or will we be able to special order one from a regular tire store?

You can replace those tires with any 275/40/20 Y speed rated tire...or lower if you're not worried about needing that rating.

I found out as my car was being delivered to me that the dealer had to replace one of the rims because it was damaged someplace along the line. I still have no idea which rims it is.

It is sad that they treat a 60K car the same as a 20K car.

I do think they handle these cars way more then they need to,,, my car went from the plant to a storage yard, got moved around there a few times, then went to another storage yard, then got moved again, then got loaded and shipped to the dealer, way to many opportunities to get damages
