2016 Charger Hellcat - Do I have the Dealer install my 3.09 Diff or have my Guy do the install? I found a Local dealer who is ready to do the Install for $400 or I can have my guy do it for $200...I already have scheduled an appointment for the Dealer to do it and I'm pretty sure that is how I will proceed but I figured I would ask my fellow Hellcat forum friends and family on your thoughts...

    Thanks everyone

Let the dealer do it then no problem with the warranty.

Local guy....dealer would have never known it was swapped if you hadn't made the appointment.

If the dealer said it wouldn't void your warranty, have them do it.:D

If you're sure it won't affect your warranty (I wouldn't trust just the word of the dealer), then have the dealer do it. Otherwise, have someone else do it.

I went to dealer route, but think I only dropped $300 and that was with a drive shaft replacement

I contacted one Dealer and they said they would call me back...I waited over a week so I called them today and the service guy finally tells me that his manager does not agree with altering a new vehicle and that they would not do the install...So Plan-B, I called another local dealer and they were very helpful and knowledgeable and were very happy to do the job. They said they are familiar with the replacement of the 2.62 to 3.09 and that they have sold a lot of the 3.09 diffs as well as done the install's so BINGO I found a Dealer who will do the install for $400 and not void the warranty.

I also know from reading a lot of discussions here in the forum that a lot of you have not had the Dealer do the install and are pleased with the outcome and saved money as a result.

Don't get me wrong I like to save money here and there and use the savings towards other purchases like embroidered HC headrests...;) I'm sure I will have the Dealer do the job and still do the headrests anyway:rolleyes:

According to the dealer they said they will honor the warranty on any Mopar parts but not for aftermarket. They also mentioned that not only do they do Mopar upgrades for Hellcat's but also Viper's and modified/lifted Jeep's.

    Sounds like a Win Win

And then you move or the dealer goes out of business or the area rep doesnt agree with their assessment lol. Dealers don't make the call whether or not to honor your warranty.

Sounds like you already made your choice I would have used your guy and saved the 200 bucks. You aren't getting any extra warranty or assurance from the dealer as a result of paying 200 more except maybe having that change tagged to your VIN....

I haven't done anything yet and the 3.09 diff is still in its box on its pallet sitting next to the HC in the garage.

I would have the dealer do it for the little bit extra cost. And make sure they upgrade the options on the car in the system. Just in case you are out of area and dealers have access to a current options list!!!

What did your dealer say when they did your swap? Did they tell you if they would void warranty on the diff? or that you are all set and good, "Have a nice day and enjoy your Hellcat Mr. srtdusty"?

    Just curious?

Regardless of what you decide, I hope your mod works out and you have a blast with the car. We need to get back to having some good times with our hellcats. (Pun intended)

Take care. Grace and favor as you push forward
