Well at least in 1970 it was. Check out the color chip charts on the Autocolor Library site. Interesting Dodge chose to use the Plymouth name TorRed and not Hemi Orange. Maybe they tweaked the modern version to be more red? The original looks pretty red also on the paint chips. 1970 Chrysler code is V2. PPG code is 2186 for both. Check it out if you doubt me. I can post later when it is easier from home computer unless someone beats me to it. Notice that 1970 GoMango is much more orange than the Hemi Orange/TorRed in 70.

My Avatar is a 2009 Hemi Orange RT and it's plenty orange. Still own the car too.

I am trying to compare more modern incarnation with original 1970. That is the standard. 2009 appears closer to 70 Gomango/ Vit C. Check out the chips and you will see what I mean.

A close friend of mine owns an original paint Torred 1970 Challenger and it is very much red.

But on the Challenger it was called Hemi Orange! TorRed was Plymouth name for same color. Maybe you could post a picture of his car?

I have one somewhere. I will look for it tonight or have him send me one. I assumed it was called Torred because he always referred to it as being the original torred paint...

On the first generation cars, Plymouth's version of Dodge's "Hemi Orange" was "Tor Red".

They are both the same color, paint code EV2

Just given different names, for marketing purposes.

The TorRed of today, has nothing in common with these early colors, whatsoever, apart from the name.

This is what I was getting at, however what people are asking for Hemi Orange to be offered they are basing their idea of what Hemi Orange looks like on much later cars and not the first generation which was much more red as TN Chargers friends car is. The paint chips if the 1970 also look very red especially compared with the 1970 GoMango which looks more like the later model Hemi Orange if this makes sense.

I think that most folks today, at least when discussing the 2008-up LX platform cars, and talking about/asking for "Hemi Orange", are referring to its late model usage, ie, paint code PLC.

I'm sure that the converse is true, if you go over to the first generation forums and discuss "Hemi Orange", there, everyone will be talking about EV2, lol.

I guess I am showing my age. When the 2008's were coming out I had mild interest but was still playing with the old stuff. Anyway here is the Plymouth paint chart from 1970.

Here is the Dodge sheet. Same paints. Different names. Hemi Orange does not look too far off modern Tor Red at least in the chart.

Thanks for sharing. Which of the greens on the chart is the one I've heard several forum members suggest may or hope it may come back in '17?

No Problem. Love old stuff like that.
Not sure on the new green but I am sure current Chrysler styling uses this chart for inspiration. Funny they choose to use the B5 designation for the blue when Blue Fire name is much cooler.

Agree! B5 is a great color, but come on....can't think of a better name than one alphabet and one number for a name :)
