Just over 1700 miles on the beast and all is still right with the world.
The young Indian chap I see at my local Shell garage when I fill up in the evening now calls me Mr Hellcat.
The adulation that this car gets is like no other car I have owned or driven and in my 53 years I have owned quite a few. You get caught in the mix of do I try and look cool and pretend I do not notice people staring, taking photographs or do I acknowledge and risk looking like a fool. An old fool at that. Young kids with mouths wide open always get a wave.
The exhaust has definitely got louder. The engine is loosening up and pulling harder. This is my seat of the pants dyno when even I start to think. F**k me this is quick.
Everyone that has been in the Cat has been blown away. Well some have been plain scared but most are used to high performance stuff and truly are impressed by the performance and the build quality. Just a very select few have driven my Cat. A couple of weeks back I went up to see a good friend that owns a specialist Porsche shop. Matt and his main mechanic who owns a mint mint 65 289 Mustang notchback loved it. I said take it for a spin. Kerry was with me and said are you going with Matt. I said hell no take Carl (the Mustang guy) for a ride. I know most of the Porsche specialists in the UK and these guys are amongst the handful I would implicitly trust. They always go the extra mile and have helped other mates out of some real awkward situations. Working late into the night if necessary.
A week ago Saturday we changed the oil. Mobil 1 with the SRT oil filter and fitted a catch can. Oil usage. If it was full from the factory it was half way down the level mark. We strained the oil coming out and apart from what looked like a little bit of liquid sealant gasket all looked well.
My default is everything in street with the paddle shifters on although I hardly ever use them. My custom is the same except for transmission in track. I love the blips on the down shifts. That A8 is one clever gearbox.
The ride quality is very good but I find it a little bit stiff on the rear when hitting some decent bumps. All liveable but could be better. Suspension is always a trade off. I think the bump damping could be a little softer on the rear and the rebound damping a little stiffer on the front.
The car has a lot of mechanical grip. Summer tyres. Traction I think is bloody good. Even from 50mph I know it is slightly lighting up the rears but it still hauls arse. The steering I find slightly numb with very little feedback. Hopefully in the next month I'll take it to a race circuit, Probably Silverstone Grand Prix and then I'll get a better handle of what exactly is going on. My only concern is whether or not it will pass the noise test. 105db static but they have noise meters around the circuits in the UK.
Paintwork, fit and finish I think is excellent. Last night when I put the car in the garage and I looked down the drivers side flank I could see a dent. Just in front of the door handle. Looks like someone tried to shut the door with a body punch. Pissed at that but I have a mate who is a dent guy. Annoying none the less. I only have a small garage and I cannot get over the heat soak. Man these cars pump out some heat when they are turned off, incredible.
My apologies for rambling on but I am just so blown away by this car. A good mate said just the other night. If you could only keep one car, forget the money what would you keep. The Hellcat.
Happy motoring. Every mile is a smile :D

Weren't you going to take some glamour pictures in and around London? Go see the Queen and let her hear the HC! Nice write up and good to hear that some folks in the UK really appreciate a different kind of muscle car than normally seen. Glad to hear that there are "petrol heads" who respect the uniqueness of the HC:)

I admire you for buying this car overseas and owning it without a warranty. That my friend takes some b*lls. I'm glad to hear how much you are enjoying the car. I wish you many, many trouble free miles. Keep the stories coming.

It's amazing how everybody loves these cars. I even get thumbs up from GT500 drivers. The only people that look the other way are the Corvette drivers but I think they are just afraid LOL.

Nice write up. Makes me want mine even more...the anticipation is killing me and its not even built yet... I have to ask Brampton Builder whether he can put a GPS tracker in the trunk, so I know where she is at ....

Many thanks guys and girls. Hell this thing has supercar performance. There is not much on the road that can give the Cat a hard time.
Lord Hellcat sounds good. Who do I talk to change my name :D
