    Hi,

I was doing some detail on the undercarriage of my Hellcat and noticed some rust on the front arms. It is mostly on the bolts and bushings, with a little on the black arms themselves. Just wondering if this is common on our cars and what if anything I can do to remove it? The car has never been driven in the rain or snow.

    Thanks for any help,

    John

How do you detail the undercarriage? Do you have a lift?

I noticed the same thing on my 2016 Hellcat, but the rest of the underside was very clean.

I think it is pretty common since I found pictures like this on other threads:

machined surfaces unless protected will rust. If you are really concerned about it get some rustolum (SP) paint and just spray over it. Clean it off if you want before paint. Use newspaper to control the over spray or you might ruin your detailing work.

    Cheers.

Can't see the undercarriage from the drivers seat which is where I spend all my time. If I'm with the Hellcat, we are driving!

I had the same issue. I cleaned the surface with a cloth the best I could and used a small bottle of black rustoleum touch up and the included brush applicator and problem solved.

This happens on pretty much every car ever made. The rust begins on bare metal parts the second the manufacturer drives the car out of the factory. Even quicker because our cars are made in lovely beautiful Salty Ontario. Detroit is no better. Too bad all cars were not made in the SW US.

Thanks everyone, just wanted to make sure it's a common issue and not just an isolated case. Maybe I'll just clean it best I can and the let it be, I was just a little bummed when I saw it, especially on a new car. However like mentioned above bare metal is going to corrode unless it's treated.

Yea, it's normal. I hit mine with a rust converter the day of delivery.

just to clarify, ive had a few other cars from other brands and because of aluminum and galvanized hardware they don't have this issue, thats part of why they are some much more expensive whilst still slow.

Sawdust is right on the money-if you are serious about the details nobody else see's RPM is the deal. Especially if you are doing a nut and bolt restoration and/or want everything to have the natural metal appearance.

What should I use to knock the light rust off my upper control arms? Then what to use to prevent it from coming back. Any use T9?
