I would not be in favor of an auto, I wouldn't want them to change the car, but if the public wants an auto, and if we want the car to stay in production then dodge might want to try to fit an auto in the car?

Is the A8 that big where they would have to redesign the whole car?

It's a Viper, no it shouldn't have an auto.

Could they put one in? Absolutely. Should they? No.

I don't care how many they would sell, Viper isn't a volume model and should stay true to its roots. It's one of the last true drivers cars on the planet.

It is basically designed to be a track car so it should also be available with the best racing technology which includes a dual clutch auto trans.

yes....even shelby is now putting in automatics.....ill be curious if the next gt500 has a A8 or A9 option

if people want to buy it then why not?

if it makes the car .5 seconds faster than why not?

dont get why its a big deal to put a A8 in a viper....why not make it as good as it can be....not everyone wants a M6....doesnt Dodge want to sell cars?..

For a weekend car...I'll take the M6. For the drag strip and daily driver status = Auto

Look at the new Z06...the auto is significantly quicker than the M7. For competition between brands, it would be a good move to bring the A8 to market. It would lower a lap time on a track like the Ring significnatly all else being equal.

This is a capitalist society... no matter Viper's "roots" if people want a high performance auto, YOU GIVE THEM A HIGH PERFORMANCE AUTO... especially if your low production, hand built car program is in danger of being pulled due to sales, profit, and corporate control...

Rumors of Viper's demise continue to come and go... but with Fiat ownership and Corvette numbers as high as they are, you have to see the writing on the wall and respond... want to sell more Vipers?

Step 1: Lower price - Completed
Step 2: Add a high performance auto trans w/ paddles
Step 3: Supercharge it, turbo charge it, do SOMETHING as the 600 hp ruling the roost is gone
Step 4: Get back in racing and show the world you can kick butt

My .02 and I bought a Viper TA at 120k BEFORE the price drop...

If the viper needs better sales numbers to stay alive, i say bring on the automatic. Pretty sure that alone would triple sales.

I've been a Viper owner since 1996. Love to road race and do track days. But I go to the drags 10 times for every road course day. Viper makes all the power you want but you can't power shift a Tremec with any consistency. Viper has a very narrow tunnel so in its current form you can't fit any kind of Auto without cutting the inter frame rails. You can put a Powerglide in but that's not very practical for the street. Viper weights a 1000# less than the Hellcat and would be wicked fast with a good Auto or sequential trans. Reality is the Viper is about to die, an auto could save it and expand the market. There would always be a stick for purest.

Guys come on really? As a current viper owner I can say that it is a car with distinction. You certainly won't meet yourself going down the road. I guess an automatic would soothe the feelings of those who can't drive a manual. To me, if viper has a demise that responsibility lies solely with the new captain of the ship. Who obviously has the same intent for hellcat. Viper is something unique it's a driving experience like no other. Something everyone should get a taste of. You wouldn't regret it.
