    Viper Near End of Life?
by David Zatz | 2015-07-23 3:40 pm EDT
According to Auto Forecast Solutions, Viper production will end in August 2017, said John McElroy in today’s AutoLine report (thanks, merl). The problem, according to Mr. McElroy, is slow sales, despite the “one of one” program and a $15,000 price cut, coupled with not wanting to spend the cash to develop a next-generation Viper.

The Viper does not seem to still be getting enough press and enthusiast attention needed to justify further investment, either, despite a new ACR version. There had been rumors of upgrades for 2016-17, but these may not have panned out.

    [IMG]<img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-28813" src="https://news.allpar.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/targa-prefix-viper.jpg" alt="targa prefix viper" width="720" height="328" />

Analysts have been wrong before — too often to mention — and it’s possible that something else is in the works. Even if Conner Avenue is abandoned, there are numerous other facilities that could be set up for limited production of the Viper — and the whole thing could be outsourced to a specialty automaker, as well. However, with the performance gap between Corvette and Viper ever-narrowing, many would argue that the snake has to either get upgrades or end its distinguished career.

when they came out with a brand new model and a 2012 ZR1 kicked its ass it kinda hurt......you should be ahead of your competition with a new model....not behind a 3 year old Chevy

plus i dont think they are changing its looks enough.....look at the vette....total change.....viper is just a slow evolution for 20 years.....giving it a v10SC would add some excitement.....id like one.....an orange TA

$85k is pretty low for a car as special and limited....i believe they are all hand painted?

not sure where they make the engines? im assuming its similar to SVT and the engines are assembled by hand (i hope they arent Made in Mexico too!)

im blunt,sorry.....sometimes im f-ing around, sometimes im not....blunt serves me well in business, but with some on forums it doesnt....once again sorry

not talking a redo at the race track between the zr1 and the TA.......talking a brand new viper debut being beat by last gen ZR1.....i owned a Dodge before i owned a Ford.....my 1st srt was 2011, my gt500 is 2013...i like dodge enough to buy a 2nd challenger....i like all brands.....and i talk up and down all brands when they deserve it....none are perfect........i actually went to the track once.......but i do enjoy playing with the numbers on my cars computer too and playing 0-60 once in a while....i like straight line performance and have no interest in twisty track racing.....so i think i could handle a viper in a straight line(i dont think it would be much different than the HC in a straight line), but most likely not at a twisty track........i do enjoy the SRT track experience though.....

    xoxoxoxo

they need a Automatic option and a SC option.....and for under $100k and they would sell them....

Viper has kicked everything in it's class. Set Nurburgring records with a two year old car. Now runs AMLS with 100HP less than a factory car. Unfortunately, there are not enough true enthusiasts. The mass market is for a secretary's car= Corvette, which now has the styling of a Caddy. With an A8 trans like the Hellcat it would sell more cars and run low 10s.

Cut the FN tops off 90% of the people that would buy the vipers would like the top to come off the other 10% will be running them on the track.

its the market...you have to agree with that logic...i think $85k is a bargain.....if i wanted a 2 seater i would have grabbed one for $85k all day long...your spending $65k on a HC whats another $20k for a much cooler car.

i think an A8 would improve performance and increase its market...not everyone wants to shift....

its funny how it works, the viper is all around a great car. professional racing wise and consumer wise, but no one wants the damn things. They really need to drop an auto into the car to expand the consumer-base.

The other issue is dealers have corvettes on the show-room all the time, when you do see a viper on the show-room?

    A) customer order thats being picked up soon
    B) Customer traded his viper in for another one

its never dealer stock, because even dealers know they don't move. You'd be surprised at how many people who want to drop 90-100k on a car that don't want to order it how they want but just want one off the show-room floor.

I want a viper, But not as a manual so thats another lost sale.

    edit:

and just to say, if the viper was auto i'd probably own one instead of a hellcat right now.
