2 hours in line already. One person at the window. Hundreds of people waiting. Appointments are 2 months out. All this to pick up my custom plate. Thats what our tax dollars do in california. Ridiculous. And still have to do a brake job today. (Sorry, but had to rant) lets here your DMV horror stories.

DMV for tags and titles here in Florida is done by the tax collectors office for each county. And they are all over.

Drivere License is a separate office. The one here is next office over.

You walk in and go to a counter. They ask you what kind of help you need. They give you a letter coded number like C13

You sit in a comfy padded chair and watch TV. There is a screen and when updates it makes a sound and you see what number is going to what worker.

When you are prompted, you walk up and sit at a chair at a desk with the person helping you. Everything is done there with that person including payment.

I've even forgot a paper for my CDL and the guy let me run out to my car and just go back to the desk. 20 minutes would be a wait. Drivers license wait is longer.

Edit: Coming from the NJ nightmare this is so easy it's silly. And I hear people complain in there

i recommend using only 1 choice....here in WI we can look online to see if they are used or not

    i wanted 707hp......already gone

here's why i give 1 choice instead of 3....when i got my 2011 SRT i picked #1 392 HEMI #2 HEMI 392.......i get my 2nd choice in nov 2010.......then i run into who had 392 HEMI.....turns out he got his in jan 2011.....they gave me choice #2 when #1 was still open....this guy didnt have it reserved or anything....they just gave me #2......F-ers

now i look online and send in for the only 1 i want

After 3 months the DMV here rejected my HELLCAT and H3LLCAT requests as offensive but later issued HE77CAT.

Actually someone could have had your first choice at the time you wanted it, then it became available and the other guy got it

When I was looking for my plate (September of 2014) HELLCAT was actually available, but I decided on something else. I had the plate before the car put on my 12 for a month or so

So I'm an old fart and remember when I was younger you went to any State Police station for driver license test/renewals/etc. Very simple. Years ago the whole thing was outsourced to a commercial outfit. Now the place is always packed with people waiting, long waits then you find out you are at the wrong window, etc. It is a real crap shoot whether you get a helpful person or not. If not, you are in for a real ordeal. Also to renew a driver's license you now have to have state issued birth certificate (not hospital) and a host of other documents to prove you are who you say. I suspect it would be easier to get a driver license renewed if I was an illegal alien.

it would have had to have been a 1950's 392 hemi then....no one with a 2011 would have had it and dumped it before the car was even available

That stinks. I usually order my plates or tabs online and then go into the office and pick them up within 15 minutes. I am sorry, that is really terrible.o_O We have a different location for driver licenses which does take a little longer, but not that long.

Solo.....I agree 100% Hope I never have to go to CA DMV ever again. AAA can do many of the DMV functions, but getting your plates should be easier than this. Make an appt and go plateless for 2 months.
