I'm about to head out on a road trip, was thinking of getting the car professionally waxed (nothing crazy, just a normal $100 kind of wax job) to help give it some fresh protection out on the road but I'm wondering if it really matters all that much or if I should just do it when I get back instead.

    Thoughts?

wax won't help the rocks, clear bra if you can. Otherwise expect to have to buy some touch up paint. Your bumper won't be destroyed, you'll just have a couple of small chips to fill

There is no right or wrong answer....bottom line, its your HC:).....you have waited a long time and your anxious to get out there....Some take it to the track right away, others enjoy keeping them in "car show" condition....and everyone else is somewhere in between:):):)
Main thing is to enjoy yourself....
BTW, if you have a little time, like CubeMan said..throw a bra on it....couldn't hurt before you leave..

    Just say'in;)

Yeah I know it won't help rocks, I was just thinking about things like storms (obviously not hail), dust, bugs, road grime and general junk you deal with when you drive for thousands of miles.

Absolutely yes, done right. Also fca mud flaps if you have time they're cheap insursnce. Anything you can do to get between your finish and bugs and birds and water spots is better than not. Do it.

You don't need to spend tons. Check out Glare products (pro polish.) Cheap, lasts, have it done by a detailer. Or purchase cquartz, or hydro2 both cheap a quick clean, polish and application I wouldn't hesitate.

I would just to help wash the bug guys off after. But... I do the work myself so not sure I would trust someone, that's just me.

If you will be driving through Florida wax before. Bugs are a killer during the summer time. Also bring some spay detailer and a microfiber that you can apply during the trip when tanking up to knock off some bugs while in transit. Clean it up again at destination to look good locally.

Yeah I bought some detailer spray as well as some bug/tar remover and plan to give the car a quick once over every time I fill up. I was just wondering if there was anything else I could do ahead of time (other than a clear bra) that might help out.
