While driving my temp stays around 206.
however in traffic it stays around 217-222. once hitting 223 the fan comes on high and cools it down. but it mostly stays in that 217-222 range.

Just wondering if that 217-222 range is normal or am I running a little hot and should have it checked out?

My charger runs about the same temps but averages a little lower like 210-215

203 if fan not needed. That is where thermostat opens.
216 at idle or in traffic.
    Yours is fine.

My Challenger runs on the highway at 206 as well. Strange thing is with AC on and hitting some stop and go traffic the fan came on and temp went below 200 and stayed there while in stop and go situation. Pretty good cooling feature I thought.

This is because the fan is needed to cool the condenser.

Running with the a/c off will produce high water temps, although it may lower under hood temps and reduce heat soak.

Running with the a/c in traffic, the fan has to run to keep the condenser cool regardless of water temp.

Good info. Whenever I get stuck in traffic for any extended time for maybe over 15 minutes the AC always goes off on any car I own. Would rather roast myself than my engines.

The fan would run more often, keeping water temps cooler....

When the a/c is on, the fan is slave to it, regardless of water temps.

If the a/c is off, the fan runs according to water temps. Usually only engaging just before overheat.

Yep, all normal. If you are worried, get on the freeway and hit it. Cools right down.;) Of course explaining that to the police is a whole other thread.:p
