I've run Mobile 1 in my previous SRT... Cats no different... IMHO any of the high end synthetics will be fine just make sure you use the right viscosity.
Mobil one 5 w 30 full synthetic in all my daily driver cars. Will use pennzoil ultra srt 0 40 see picture above... at $4 per quart at autozone was a no brainer. ($2 rebate makes it $2 per quart)
Motor Oil is like religion and politics. Makes for some heated discussions.
My interpretation of the owners manual is this:
Use a 0W-40 weight synthetic motor oil that is either SN rated and/or Chrysler Material Standard MS-12633 rated.
The Pennzoil Ultra 0W-40 is a no brainer as it's called out as the recommended oil. Mobil 1 0W40 is SN rated and I believe it's an acceptable alternative based on how I read the owners manual.
Anything that meets the documented criteria should be acceptable.
That's the oil I have been putting in my cat so far
I have used rotella t6 in all my other srt's without issue.
I agree, It does not meet the "spec" but if you do a deep dive into the Technicl data sheets, they are essentially the same
Just my .02, I have had good luck and I buy whichever is on sale . . . between the pensoil, Rotella, Amsoil. I don't use Mobil 1 - Too much lifter noise based on my 3 srt's in the past
For peace of mind, follow the user manual and srt recommendations for sure
I just received my oil and filter yesterday. The 041 filter is a Viper filter and has better micron filtering than our stock version does. I am sure that Mobile 1 and AMS are just as good but, they do not meet the engineering spec MS-12633 that SRT made as the requirement to meet. Remeber FCA void the contract with Mobil 1 when they went bankrupt and owed Mobile millions of dollars. Therefore FCA had to go out and find another oil company. These products can be found on amazon for roughly $50.00 a case and $14.00 a filter. Mine ran $44.00 a case and $10.00 because of my wife's prime account.
I called RP and talked to one of their specialists. It is not certified for the Chrysler spec and probably shouldn't be used while under factory warranty even though he knows the RP is superior. He did recommend their HPS 10w40 after warranty for the best possible protection.
I think people are looking for alternatives because PUP is not easy to find. SoCal parts stores in Lancaster, Palmdale, Tehachapi, and Bakersfield don't have this oil. I was lucky to have ordered mine.
Pennzoil has had a bad reputation and following for YEARS amongst auto techs and various motorheads and racers! It was due to the amount of damaging wax buildup in engines mainly from their conventional oil products. I drove and raced muscle cars in Texas for years and the oil vote was for anything other than Pennzoil. However, their new synthetics may be perfectly fine, especially since SRT is partnering with them for these engines.(actually they are only one of two motor oil companies that actually competed for the Chrysler spec) I personally, am going with Amsoil since it it also certified for the SRT engines. I have had VERY good results from Amsoil over the years and will continue to depend on their quality to protect my investment!
