I made a bit mistake this morning and luckily didn't ruin anything... I was at the top of 4th and tried to hit 5th... Well, guess what is next to 5th? 3rd! I went into 3rd, dropped the clutch and my shift light was flashing at me for a second before I realized what was going on... For some reason, it's hard to me to catch 5th during spirited driving... First time I've had this problem out of all of my cars... You guys think a Barton would help me out?

Upgrade your shifter? It should be a natural smooth transition as you push out of 4th it should transition smoothly to 5th, I've seen lots of luck with the Hurst.

I loved that about my 09' ZR1, you couldn't miss a gear, and it was a short throw shifter from the factory.

Yeah, every manual I've owned in car form, was a very short shift... I had no problems... Even my Xterra and Jeeps seem to have had less throw than the Challenger! I think it's time for an upgrade...

Just a suggestion that works...When moving the shifter from 4th to 5th, use the fleshy area beneath the base of the thumb. This would be the pocket between the thumb and the next finger. This allows the spring in the shifter to pull the shifter naturally to the right. Moving the shifter from top to bottom, use two fingers.

while i will agree the barton is 100% better than stock you still have to "try" for 5th and 6th.

I agree here. It may be different if you're shifting into 5th at redline (I've never done that as that would be too fast on the street for me), but just cruising it takes a conscious effort to go to 5th and 6th.

One thing the instructors pointed out at Bondurant. Shift with the ball in your palm, not forceably holding the ball in a tight grip.

The Barton is also adjustable left and right. I am going to adjust mine so that it's almost all the way towards the left this year. 5th seems to be a bit of a 'stretch' to get it over there. I think by having the shifter closer to me will help.

You can also remove one of the springs in the Barton..so less effort going side to side, but I don't think I'm going to do that.

The stock shifter has a lot of free play, I have a the Mopar Hurst with the Pistol Grip and the throw rod mod, it is much better than the stock shifter.

Yes, ... but maybe more so would be to watch (or re-watch) all the driving and chase scenes in "Vanishing Point." ;)

Smooth shifting is a matter of technique, and Kowalski never missed a gear once in that movie. :D

You can thank me later.

Ah Kowalski... How dare he put tumble weeds all over that poor car... Then again, how dare he run it into some CATS too? I barely remember that movie. My dad watched it all the time when I was a little kid. I'll have to watch it again... Can't find on Nexflix or at any garage sales or anything....
