Ok, so what's the deal about the first 500 miles. Who doesn't use the red fob, changing the oil after 501, etc. What's the real danger and I'm not talking about redlining the car either in its first weeks I mean don't they take the car on the dyno right after the build it and run it balls out to test? I've babied some of my new cars trying to keep it under 55 and my HC will absolutely be babied but I've also been told to drive it like you stole it from day one. I just want to do the right thing. Does this mean don't get on it even a little in the first 500?

I was easy on mine for about 100 miles, then I started driving the hell out of it.I truly believe the break in period is more for the driver, easy to crash if you're not experienced with this much power

I was avg, i didn't get on it TOO hard, but following the break-in for where i live wasn't possible. So i didn't baby it, but i didn't abuse it either, i just drove avg. As for oil? I'm going to change it at about 3200 miles, and thats only because i drove it for 3 weeks, then parked it for 3.5 months. If i was at home DD it i would be doing it at 5k miles and i wouldn't think twice about it. But you said, other do it at 500 and so on. I think that comes down more to personal preference and/or anal sensitivity.

I didn't do the break in at all. Averaged 75 mph on the 600 mile drive home. Did my first oil change at 4700 miles and currently at the dealership getting my second with 10300 miles on her. No engine issues.

"I think that comes down more to personal preference and/or anal sensitivity"....LOL:D
Your probably right, with all the debating last winter, including oil analysis, it does come down to individual preference...past history etc. As far as oil change, had it done at 600 miles...why?...well, went in for 6-month check up and fuel rail recall....ALSO, the oil change was free so why not:)

My 2 cents...if I remember right on the break in, its more for the rest of the drive train instead of the engine. A couple of friends have Ram trucks, and they were told the same thing.

This engine has rings that need to be broken in like the old days that's the rpm and throttle limitations. The speed limitations are for the drivetrain.

And is this computer locked or something at 500 miles? Does it release so to speak full power or something after that?
