    Hi Folks,

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I cannot find the exact information I'm looking for.

When should I have the oil changed for the first time in my Cat? I've seen numbers in the forum ranging from just a few hundred files, to 1,000+ and higher. What is recommended?

    Thanks in advance!

1000 miles after a hard break-in (don't baby it, no need to). Do this to remove any possible metal shavings. After this, you go to standard oil change intervals.

You will get a lot of opinions...here is mine...The manual says to change every 6,000 miles or 6 months whichever comes first. Change more often if used in dusty conditions or extreme driving.

I will do my first change at 1,000 miles. I have done this with every new car I have bought. After that I do the changes every 3,000 miles. is this the best schedule? Heck I don't know I just feel good about it...;)

If you want to go to extremes send your oil off to have it analyzed to see what the optimum mileage is...

1899 for first oil change (plan for for 1500 but got delayed) then around every 4000 miles.

now sitting at 11,600+ since last July. It's been a good daily driver!

As stated above, the owners manual says every 6k miles. It does not indicate an exception for your first oil change or for breaking it in. Therefore I believe anything other than 6k miles is purely based on your comfort level or your preference. I was originally planning on doing my first change like some others at 1k miles but am bringing it in this weekend for it's first change at 2.5k. That mileage is for no particular reason, it is just where I wanted to get it done. Whatever you decide, just keep checking your oil level. That is much more important than when to change, providing you are under 6k miles.

My vote is for 500 Miles,
    Definately will not hurt!
IMHO Also would not use full synthetic,
    Until engine fully broken in!
(Not sure if that is possible with 0-W40 spec'd oil)

I did several short oil change intervals (first at 500). I had oil analysis performed on every one and IMO the short changes were necessary based on the analysis results.

I changed mine after driving from Pa to Bowling Green Kentucky for CF6. I was definitely going to run the 1/4 mile at Bowling Green and my husband Top Cat had an app for me to stop at a dealership to have the oil changed.
I had a great time running the 1/4 with out any problems.

I am aware of what the claim is re:engine break in,
Possibility there is more to go,
IMHO there May be further seating, depending on
Several factors ie: ring tolerance, bearing tolerance
Variances engine to engine, there is no perfect world!
Early oil change can do no harm, whatsoever, cheap insurance.
I keep vehicles for their lifetime,my preference may differ
    From others.

Changed mine at 500, oil is cheap. Also did oil analysis.
