    I have done a search but I couldn't find a consistent answer.

Why do people get the Black Satin hood option? Strictly for cosmetics / historical look? Or are there any performance / thermal / weight benefits?

With luck, I hope to post soon about getting a Hellcat!!

    Thanks,

    T Bone.

One the most rewarding benefits is the glare reduction from the hood.

I love my vinyl satin black wrapped hood.

    For me, it was cosmetics/historical.

The black hood does have some history as it was an option on several 1960s and 1970s Mopars....I would assume some know the history and buy for that reason...others just like how it looks..

The street/race scene in the sixties had hoods etc in primer. So Chrysler did the same beginning in 1969 with the 6 pack cars for street cred. Ironically today's kids do the same with their tuner cars, and my friends think they look cheesy on tuners but not on Mopars. Personally, as I've matured i prefer a solid color car with no stripes, but do understand why someone would feel otherwise.

This is why .... (not the wheelie .. the looks)

I read that in the 60's and 70's carburetor fires were fairly common when racing so the paint on the hood would get burnt often. Rather than repainting the hood with a multi step process they would just prime it and that's it. They also realized that the flat black paint would reduce sun glare.

History. Historically, more women will throw their panties at a car with a matte black hood. I've run exhaustive testing on my cars with standard hoods and with matte black hoods, and I have concluded that this is indeed true.

On any given day, I will only get maybe 2 or 3 pair of panties thrown at me (followed by the standard begging and promises of fulfillment) however, when I drive my Hellcat (equipped with satin black hood), I can average 6-7 pair... on a weekday. Weekends, I just get buried and have to protest loudly to get them to stop. It's honestly kind of a burden.

Funny in the sense that it's easier to fix the hood than the fire...

Def cosmetic and historical. The vintage Mopars looked awesome with them and the new ones so also. It makes the car pop

I don't think it will add anything to the resale value. At least nothing of significance. It's not like they are a rare factory mod.
