I am creating this thread in hopes that it will help someone make the most debated decision here on the forum... A8 vs. M6.

Let me start with the fact that I am a Program Manager for a major automotive company and work with many of the engineers that assisted in the development of this powertrain. I am a manual guy, although my DD is not a stick - I love the feel of rowing gears. But here are the pros/cons that I came up with:

    A8:
    Pros -

    ~10.70 in the 1/4.
Recommended by all engineers that were spoken to.
Better mileage (who really cares, but it's a pro)
Rated for more power than the M6 (and is substantially under-rated from what I have been told).
    Cons -
    No rowing gears.
Harder and more expensive to fix if issue occurs.

    M6:
    Pros -

Easier to fix if a problem develops.
    More "fun" to drive.

    Cons -
I've seen several clutches (4) that have already been replaced.
Lack of aftermarket clutches. (For now)
    Much slower (fastest is ~11.5).
Rated for less power than the A8.

This is going to be a cruiser for me but I couldn't stand the thought of getting smoked that bad by the Auto. You'll need to decide what's most important to you - for .3-.4 I would've opted for the manual but not for .7-.8 in the 1/4.
With that all said... I have my Von for a 2016 Granite Crystal, A8, Black Laguna, Satin Hood. HC110817.

    you forgot to mention 0-60's

for a street race thats the most important number....and ill bet the A8 smokes the M6 even more in this area......i can get 3.5's once in a while on the street w/o even heating the tires up with my A8....ill bet most M6 guys get 4.5 or higher.......

more fun to drive is the only reason to get a M6

Performance wise the M6 loses in every way

    i dont professionally street race...no

ive done street light races on occasion(few times in my life)....typically shuts down 60-80mph before things get too out of hand....im talking about the casual ride up to a vette at a stop light thing....not shutting down a freeway to street race and post on u-tube

A good & interesting post,i'll just give some pros tonight on the m6. FYI i was looking for a a8.

In 500 ml. i have out smarted the skip shift deal that people cry about !! With all this power i just go 1-3-5-6 with a brisk happy pedal and when in 6 on a back country road i can pull it down too a 1000 rpm thats 35 mph and then take off without downshifting, thats great drivability without a lot of rowing !!!:D
I'm getting 15 mpg for now and thats 5 better than my hemi jeep and i'm far from trying to get good mpg !!

Thats not what i mean.. People pull up next to you, honk three times and want you to go.. Racing from the dig attracts more unwanted attention..none of its safe to do but thats how people have always done it.. Squealing tires at a stoplight and your card impounded in your license suspended..

I don't want anyone to think I'm bashing the M6 with this thread. I would have been completely happy with either, I was just fortunate and after a lot of searching was able to choose.

A badass vehicle no matter what transmission!

I'm recently retired so my SRT is my casual daily driver. If I didn't have knee and hip issues, I would've definitely gotten the M6 for the fun of rowing through the gears. Don't get me wrong, I really do love the A8. If for what ever reason, you can't have the M6, the A8 is one absolutely unique and enjoyable tranny. It clearly is the next best thing to having a manual!

One of the driving factors for me is that I spent a few days in a new BMW M series with the dual clutch automatic and enjoyed the heck out of that car even though it wasn't a stick. If I want a stick I have a new Roush Stage 3.
