I’m simply expressing my dissatisfaction with Dodge’s resolve and urgency to fix my problem: I can’t complete the registration of my Hellcat because…
I Ordered through a dealer in Arizona @ MSRP, but I live in California so I'm required by law, even though it's a new car, to have it tested. For the last 3 months - I CAN’T PASS THE CA SMOG TEST!!!!!!
SRT Tech as well as an SRT Engineer have tried over the course of 3 months now by dealing with issues concerning the bypass valve/throttle body, then it was the catalytic converter and oxygen sensor... and the last attempt indicated a code which referred to an issue with the EGR Valve (the Hellcat doesn’t even an EGR Valve). UGH!
My hope is that someone who cares, sees this and passes the info along to someone who can elevate the level of attention to get this taken care of!
People are buying from AZ because CA dealers are freaking jokers. Called around today.
White Charger HC in Vacaville - $99k
Black Chally HC in San Jose - $89k
Meanwhile my dealer in AZ has a nice MSRP build with my name on it expected enter production this Tuesday. California has many problems... The least of which is ADMs even if they are egregious!!

When get my car I'm gonna go there and sell it.. make an extra 10-15k and then order a new one here again and put that money on it to get a lower payment.. LOL!!
I purchased my 2015 hellcat in OHIO and got it registered in California. But I noticed that my smog spot didn't even ran my car in the smog machine as they have done with my previews cars. They just scanned it pretty fast and got my smog paperwork in 5-10 minutes. I was amazed how quick they served me and charged me $50.

Not to sound calas, but good enough to live there good enough to buy there. New cars purchased in your "Home State" dont require smog tests. Sometimes perceived value trumps cost.... JMHO...
Ultimately, FCA warrants the vehicle to pass emissions testing. This type of thing happens more often than you would think. I'm pretty confident it's gonna get handled.
Alabama doesn't even hassle me about the CA tags on my cars. CA goes bat $&@$ crazy over out of state stuff. I remember back in the early 80s when just about everybody had those "Welcome to California - Now go home" bumper stickers. Didn't work though.
I live in southern Utah and have a second home in Lake Havasu, Az. Everybody I know or have met recently is either from Calif. or wants to get out of there. I sold a ATV to guy from Santa Cruz this weekend. He worked sheet metal or something and desparately wanted to leave Cal. but said he couldn't, he was making $60 grand a year there and would only make half that in Arizona. Then he told me his 2 bedroom apartment rent is $3000. p/month ! Kinda eats up that 60 grand pretty quick. What's the point?
I live in Arizona and had to have my Charger shipped in from Pennsylvania, as the dealers in Phoenix wanted 10 over MSRP for 2016s. I'd have to say buying out of state, was the most pleasing experience I've ever had when buying a car.
Bought my Hellcat from a dealer in San Diego. Paid MSRP, so it is possible to buy one in CA for MSRP, but I agree, most dealers around here are ripping people off. At the time I was looking for a car, many dealers in Arizona, Nevada and Washington were also adding big adjustments.
I have brought several cars in to CA, all passed smog without any issue. If a new Hellcat is failing, there is something wrong with the car, since all of them have the same equipment. Only difference in CA is a sticker.
As a CA native, I agree that the state has gone to hell, but AZ and NV are too hot for me.
Bought mine in Texas, $5k below MSRP, drove it home to CA. Passed smog easy.
Tried to buy in CA, but no one would deal
CA auto and gun laws suck, but lived here all my life.
I know this is it old post but I am having a problem trying to get my 2015 Hellcat to pass yes, I did have a pully and Do a few pumps and bigger injectors. But luckily, I kept my stock PCM. So now everything is back to stock And I do have people in the community I know That have good connections. So I have been going through the driving. The seizure where I go from 55 to 20 without any brakes going as certain speed for a while. Driving in stopping the traffic, so on so on, Now I am checking with the HP tuner if there's any codes showing before I go and try to get it smoged again. When I failed all it said I failed for was modified Software, so hopefully, this works.
than you.
