World's Fastest Sedan 2015: Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat vs BMW M5 vs Mercedes S65 vs Jaguar XJR vs Aston Martin Rapide S vs Cadillac CTS-V

I watched this video without knowing who the winner is and was glad for it. If you really want to know, read the rest of this article before you watch this video:

Justin Bell gathered six super-sedans and ran them through a series of three tests to determine the world’s fastest sedan

Justin Bell is a British race car driver and winner of the 1998 GT2 Class at Le Mans, among many other racing achievements. Recently, Bell decided to test out the world’s fastest sedans to see which is the fastest of them all. To do so, Bell gathered six super-sedans and ran them through a series of three tests. In the first and second test, two cars would be eliminated, leaving only two cars remaining for the final top speed showdown.

The first test is a simple, 0-60 test, where Bell gathers all six cars, in two groups of three, and runs each group to 60 mph. The loser in each group is then eliminated. The second is two groups of two cars, each do a standing quarter mile run, and the loser in each group is, again, eliminated. The last and final test pits the final two cars against each other in a top speed test to see which is, ultimately, the fastest sedan…in the world.

Before we get into the winners, let’s look at the contestants and their specs. They are as follows:

World’s Fastest Sedan 2015: Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat vs BMW M5 vs Mercedes S65 vs Jaguar XJR vs Aston Martin Rapide S vs Cadillac CTS-V

Cadillac CTS-V – Not the new one, obviously, as it hasn’t been released yet. But this last-gen CTS-V still packs a mighty punch.

2 Liter, Supercharges, LSA V8 producing 556 hp and 551 lb-ft of torque
6-Speed automatic or 6-Speed manual transmission
    0-60 in 4.2 seconds
    ¼ mile in 12.0 seconds
    Top Speed of 179 mph
Aston Martin Rapide S – The new Rapide S is the most expensive car in the test, but that doesn’t necessarily make it the fastest. It’s also one of two V12’s.

    9 Liter V12 producing 550 hp and 457 lb-ft of torque
    8-Speed ZF automatic transmission
    0-60 in 4.7 seconds
    ¼ mile in 13.1 seconds
    Top Speed of 190 mph
Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG – The big bruiser in the S Class family, the S65 AMG features the only other V12 and has the biggest engine.

    0 Liter, twin-turbo V12 producing 621 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque
    7-Speed automatic transmission
    0-60 in 4.0 seconds
Top Speed of 155 mph (limited)
Jaguar XJR – Jag’s uber-luxury sedan actually has more teeth than it looks.

    0 Liter Supercharged V8 producing 550 hp an d502 lb-ft of torque
    8-Speed ZF automatic transmission
    0-60 in 3.9 seconds
    ¼ mile in 12.2 seconds
    Top Speed of174 mph
BMW M5 – As Justin Bell says in the video, BMW has made its bones racing, so the M5 is fast.

    4 Liter, twin-turbo V8 producing 575 hp and 500 ;b-ft of torque
    7-Speed DCT transmission
    0-60 in 3.9 seconds
    ¼ mile in 11.9 seconds
Top Speed of 160 mph (limited)
Dodge Charger Hellcat – Holds the title of most powerful sedan in the world but does that make it fastest?

1 Liter, Supercharged, Hemi V8 producing 707 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque
    8-Speed ZF automatic transmission
    0-60 in 3.4 seconds
    ¼ mile in 11.4 seconds
Top Speed of 204 mph (claimed)
These are all very different cars that have very interesting specs. Some cars are faster to sixty than other but slower in the quarter mile. Some are faster to sixty and in the quarter mile but have lower top speeds. That’s the interesting thing about this test. Because it happens in three different heats, certain cars that might have done well in the second heat don’t get the chance because they lost in the first. So it actually turns out to be quite the interesting matchup.

In the first heat, Bell pits the Caddy, the Benz and the Hellcat against each other in one group while the second group consists of the Rapide, M5 and Jaguar XJR, in a 0-60 mph test. The Caddy and the Rapide lose the first heat, while the rest advance to the second.

In the second heat, the M5 faces the Hellcat in the ¼ mile, while the Jag takes on the Benz. Both the M5 and the Benz lose to their respective opponents, so they don’t move on to the final top speed test.

The final, top speed, heat pits the Hellcat, the most powerful sedan in the world, up against the Jaguar XJR. I must admit, at the beginning of this test, I never saw the Jag making it to the end. I thought it was going to be the Hellcat up against the M5 or S65 AMG. But nevertheless, here we are. And Justin Bell takes them on a top-speed testing track to see which car will win. It would seem like the Hellcat would take the easy victory. And it does. Even though Bell isn’t able to hit the claimed 204 mph mark, he does hit 194 mpg, which is faster than the Jag’s 174.

The Rapide S probably could have given the Hellcat a better run for its money than the Jag, but it still wouldn’t have mattered. The Dodge Charger Hellcat is the fastest sedan in the world.
