In case you were wondering, they are body color underneath.

Was on the freeway two days ago and just up ahead was a truck with a trailer full of what seems to have been rocks (limerock I believe), and he hit a very serious bump in the road and what looked like an explosion of rocks came flying at all of us behind him. I was quite a ways back (I don't allow myself to be too close to vehicles like that for this exact reason), but I still got a spray of small rocks all over my car at high speed.

One that hit my hood took out a chunk of paint about 5mm in diameter. And you can see it from 10 feet away. The pic sucks because of the available light, but in person it is a very clear reveal of Sublime underneath.

That's gonna be a ***** to spot fix I think.

Doesn't appear to be green in the pic. I'll take your word for it. It does surprise me that the satin finish is OVER the sublime paint.

Maybe they painted over the body color?

I'll try to grab a better pic, but yeah... no mistaking that it is in fact Sublime underneath the satin black.

Well they do paint the cars and send them to have the hood removed and repainted outside of Brampton. Spot painting will not work.

Yeah, I'm not a paint expert in the slightest, but I just don't see a way to do a touch-up on this without it looking like shit.

And I'm not in the mood to run out and drop a grand to have the whole thing repainted.

Hard to say I've seen paint pro's do amazing touch up work. Another option is insurance claim?

Brampton Builder confirmed long ago the OE hoods are sprayed over the topcoat (scuffed first). A friend has a Sublime cat with the black hood and you can see the sublime on the underside when looking in around the vents from the underside.

Both the original OE hood and the newer ones that are done at the plant are sprayed over the body color paint.

The first chip is always the most painful. After that, they only add character.
