I used to have some heartburn over the 4dr not being a "real" Charger, right up until the moment I told myself to shut up. At the end of the day, some guys in Michigan took a B body, sexed it up a little and slapped a name on it, hoping it would sell. Forty years later, those same type of guys took a modified Merc chassis and slapped a name on it, hoping it would sell. Were they playing to heritage? Sure they were. Is the 4dr a much better car than that hideous 2 dr crapbox they pushed in the mid 70's? Absolutely. The only constant is change. I know, I know, everything was better way back when. I could run faster, shoot straighter and piss farther, I got it.

The Challenger captures the overall shape of the Gen1 cars really well. That said, set them beside one another and it looks like the new one crapped out the old one. Crash test/safety requirements, tech add ons, etc... it is what it is. You could always do what I did, just have one of each. That way you can enjoy the experience of both. Here's a hint, the new one is better in every way, but the old one makes your junk twitch every time you look at it.
