Hey guys, getting ready to hit up the track, expecting to work my way into mid 9’s and don’t want to get booted. A friend of mine said that 2014+ cars can go 9.0 or 150mph (or around there) without a roll cage because of modern safety equipment? Can anyone validate this for me?

Would likely greatly depend on the track.

They changed the rules for the Tesla people who don't want to install cages in their cars and still run 9's.

It will depend on the track and that rule is only for stock vehicles with no modifications.
Most tech guys don’t know much in my experience though so you will have to give it a go and see what happens

I go to my local track quite often and the only people that get a hard time are the modern cars trying to get away with the newer rules and have added a obvious power adder like turbo or blower

I have broken a lot of rules there only on test and tune days, and the only time I was asked to stop making passes was in my 2007 Z06 when I did a 9.9 pass at 140. Again, it will greatly depend on the staff and ownership at your local track

They just don't want someone rolling up in a gutted 2014+ race car and saying, "Hey, the rules say I can run it without a roll bar or cage." You can modify your car, but it needs to have regular interior, all the air bags and safety stuff, stock body panels, and all the rest, etc, I would think.

But like said above, it really depends on the track. But I would think if your car looks stock in terms of interior and exterior, then you should be able to.

Tracks can set their own rules, But it does appear the NHRA / IHRA has gotten the new roll bar rules out to their sanctioned tracks.

A couple of my local 1/8 milers were absolutely anal going quicker than 7.00 you HAD to have a roll bar, They let you get away with a 6.98 but start screaming going quicker than that. I can't really blame them as there were a rash of fatal crashes 10-12 years ago around here.

Now I'm busting 6,5xx's in my kitty and they only require a helmet and long pants, One does require a jacket.

However seeing what kinda POS cars they let let run with some of these things they call a 'roll bar' or 'cage' leaves me SMFH.

Sadly a kid was killed at Farmington a few weeks back, It was a higher powered car, something broke and it rolled, they sed it looked like one of the cage bars broke and hit him in the head.

I only do a couple of private rentals a year and never deal with this. Yes, it costs 4 times more, but there are 10 times less idiots who don't know what they're doing to ruin the day, so...
Yeah, I’m new to area/no friends, as soon as I start taking car out I’m sure I’ll meet some people and get invited to some rentals

You should go and read the rule for yourself. Lots of misinformation in here to say the least. You want to be spoon fed but they are feeding you crap. Just sayin.........

You really going to fight with a TECH guy at the race track and say " I saw it in a thread on hellcat.org"? I am just trying to help you. You don't have to be sarcastic.

No, was just asking for advice/people’s experience. I’ll go read the regs. Thanks for posting it, I really appreciate it. Sorry for the sarcasm
