I hate for this to be my second post because I really am in love with this car. I am a long time lurker who signed up after being referred from a fellow Redditor in response to a video I posted on r/Challenger of my supercharger noise. It was suggested that I post here and try to get the attention of Dodge Cares. I bought the car in March with 5,200 miles and I now have 6,xxx on it. It is under powertrain warranty until the end of July. The car is completely stock and was obviously not abused by the previous owner.

I took it to a local dealer 2 weeks ago for this issue and for the rear diff issue. The dealership replaced the diff fluid under warranty, and the dealer tech heard and noted the supercharger noise in the computer and on my paperwork. They said they need another Hellcat with similar mileage to compare it to in order to deem the noise to be "excessive". Does this sound bad enough to warrant replacement, and if so how do I escalate this issue to get it resolved? Should I go to another dealer or try to push it through Dodge Cares?

Thank you for any assistance!

Sounds exactly like my 16. I had it pretty much since new. I went to a couple of dealers to have them look at it. Short answer, "it's normal". Even opened a case with SRT. Maybe it was five years ago and they werent aware of the problem yet. My warranty just ran out and thought about going back, before it expired, even had an appointment scheduled, but honestly the thought of wasting my time and dealing with another Dodge dealer runaround I decided against it. There are more options now to deal with it privately, rebuild services, used/new parts, etc.., but it will be out of pocket. I dont think my noise changed since new, but I know I'm probably on borrowed time to when I will have to adddress it. I also have low miles, 8,xxx.

This is hit or miss with the dealer, you might get one that will be supportive or one that will dismiss it. Sadly, the game you have to play for big ticket warranty items are with any brand. Bought a new GMC Yukon same time as the hellcat and have a clunking in my drivetrain with downshifts. Brought it in and told its normal drivetrain slop for a big truck. Ah, OK...good luck.

Oh and by the way, the dealership telling you they need another cat with same mileage to compare is giving you the runaround and basically telling you they dont want to deal with it. I too had the dealer compare with another cat that was quiet and it still made no difference in their decision. They supposedly also took a video and sent it to FCA.

Skip Dodge Cares. From what I've seen it's more PR than anything else. Take it to another dealer.

I literally just went through this with my car. Changed the snout bearings out (also the SC belt pulleys with the Metco kit) and that noise is now gone. Before I could hear it even in the car sitting at idle, now nothing in the car and just the faintest of sounds with the hood up.

You can have just the snout repaired by a company like Jon Bond or if you are mechanically inclined and are extremly comfortable and familair with pressing in and out bearings you can rebuild it yourself for about $50 and 5ish hours or labor.

Yeah, I can hear mine in the car too.

I appreciate your input. I was actually considering taking the car down to HHP in the future and just see if they could send the blower out for rebuild/upgrade when they do their thing. However, I'd like to try to get the issue resolved under warranty in case I decide not to take things in that direction.

Hey bud I had the same issue with my 16 Hellcat with about 19K miles. It started with noises in the rear diff (which dealership replaced fluids under warranty) (TSB Recall I believe on this one.) Then the diff was replaced as well. Then I started hearing bearing noises, which seem to be coming from the supercharger snout (Which Dealership replaced) Then from there noises coming from the IHI supercharger itself. (Which Dealership replaced) It was a bit of a hassle, but everything was documented at the dealership with complaints I had and eventually everything was replaced on their dime. If the dealership is giving you the run around, just go to a different dealership especailly with lower miles you got.

The updated fluid seems to have fixed my diff issues for now. No more popping when making tight turns while cold and the whine is greatly diminished. If it comes back, I'll probably just do a 3.90 diff swap and call it a day.

This dealer is taking care of me on the blower. The first one I went to had their SRT guy out on paternity leave and they didn't even want to look at it. The second one didn't seem interested in helping me out, as noted in my original post. The SRT guy at this dealership heard the sound and knew immediately that it wasn't right, so the part is on order. This dealership seems to get more of the SRT business and they've earned mine now.
