A buddy of mine bought a 2016 Challenger Hellcat and left it with me. Lucky me :)
Had a rental today, so I decided to run it as is. 100% stock other than the 93 Diablo tune.
Full tank of straight 93. 275 MP4S on stock wheels. Honestly couldn't tell you what the pressures were because someone rotated them and none of the sensors are in the right place.
First 2 passes were the best of the day. Not surprising given the fresh prep and the fact that the temp was quickly rising into the mid 90s.
Made a pass around 2:00 PM with fresh prep but it was terrible, wouldn't hook up at all.
1st pass, 11.34 @ 125.16
I was stoked and convinced it was gonna go so much faster. LOL.
2nd pass (3 min later) was best ET of the day. 11.311 @ 123.19.
Clearly it was getting hot, lost 2 MPH but I am still impressed with an 11.31 on street tires!
I let it cool for an hour 2x and tried backing it up but fought being able to even floor it in 1st gear once the track got hot.
11.5 was best from there, with a pair of 11.6 passes. Good time for sure. Woulda cracked a 10.9 on a Nitto all day...next time :)

Took this thing back to the track yesterday. DA was 2300-3000 all day.
Still on the MPS4s :)
We've since spent a little time dialing in the tune, and added a Flowmaster CAI.
First hit went 1.88 / 11.176 @ 125.69
I knew I was too easy out of the hole, and let it sit for an hour.
Next pass, we were operating the tree ourselves for some reason, and my buddy didn't realize he couldn't turn it off until after the run...it only recorded the 60' time of 1.81.
I knew that should have been enough for an 11.0X and I was mad, lol.
Parked it for another hour, and tried again. I really wanted an 11.0X on street tires.
Got on it much quicker, and knew the launch was more aggressive. Pulled good through all the gears. 1.72, 10.989 @ 127.05!
I was thrilled at that point. I knew there was still more to be had from the launch. Hadn't even spun a tire or hopped all day, but I didn't want to push my luck.
Cant wait to get this thing out in some cool air!

That's great improvement from one race day to another. Keep working at it and your time should get better as you fine tune what works best. Cooler air for better DA's will also be your friend! ;)

Very solid run for Diablo tune and that DA.Cooler air will make a difference.Since the PCM is already unlocked, might want to consider a custom tune for stock boost?

Dodge really puts a safe and conservative tune on our Hellcats. Air fuel and timing especially. Lol. They don’t want to be replacing engines. Warranties on anything and everything is just marketing.

I don't think the factory tune is all that conservative to be honest. It calls for a 12.01 AFR at WOT which is pretty lean for a supercharged car. COT temp will kick in pretty quick and then it runs pig rich at 10.25 AFR which can max out the injectors in good air. I think there were some obvious compromises and a nice custom tune does a lot for these cars in terms of safety AND drivability IMO.

I believe the factory tune being "conservative" is due in part to much less timing being set from the factory for safety margins, over what the AFR is at under WOT. With a good tune only (mostly timing adjustments), you can expect a good 40-50 whp gain alone.

Timing's not what I'd call conservative on a Hellcat. The Redeyes were a little more conservative I think but a standard Hellcat calls for like 15° at max aircharge which is pretty healthy for what's intended to be 11psi of boost and 91 octane fuel.

My bone stock 2016 Hellcat used to see 3-4 deg of STKR at WOT. That's a LOT and I think contributed to my original motor's early demise.

The story I've been told is that the original Hellcat was intended to have 650HP, then info about the then 2015 GT500 being 670HP came out and Dodge bumped the power to 707. Could just be a story though.

I don't wanna unintentionally derail the thread. Start a new one and tag me if you guys wanna talk tuning. I just didn't want people thinking these things are tuned conservative bone stock, at least for my thoughts on conservative.

That's a good run @MKL_DS for a tune only in that DA. Good DA and that's probably 10.60s.

My bad for using the word “conservative”. I just meant that good, reputable tuners are able to get anywhere from 40-70 rwhp (I read on these Hellcat and other forums) with just a tune. And I know every dyno isn’t the same. Weather temps and other factors have a lot to do with the numbers too.

Tuners can increase the temps so COT doesn’t kick in so soon, correct? I also heard it can be turned off but nobody wants to burn up their Cats obviously lol.

Where did you see a stock car pickup 70whp from just a tune?

The stock tuning is not conservative at all on factory hellcats. Especially 2015s from what I have seen and done. You have 700+ warrantied HP. They did a great job on the factory tuning putting the power out and keeping you safe for 100k miles or more. Especially when you compare it to some of the GM stuff with a mess of torque management and require you to tune if you want good results at the track

Let me look for that post about 70 hp. What’s the most hp you’ve seen from a tune? Like I said every dyno is different.
And The weather, temps, humidity, etc have factors as well.

I think I heard about 70 hp on the other site.

I have seen cars pickup over 100 wheel with tune and other parts if the car isn’t running 100% when it shows up. As in the intercooler system needs to be bled, needs spark plugs, needs an air filter, etc….

A lot of 6th Gen ZL1 cars have put low factory numbers out because GM didn’t bleed the intercooler system well on the first two model years. Same with early C7Z06 LT4 but those just heat soak bad if they don’t have the factory GM updates. Considering most early factory hellcats we have ran here pull around 4 deg timing at WOT, I’m shocked you got that big of a gain, but at the same time I don’t think we have ever done a tune only hellcat. Everyone wants over 750whp

You picked up 74hp from a tune which is impressive. What did it pickup for MPH in the quarter? You have a beast of a stock powertrain there for sure

You hit the nail on the head here. Dynos are great for what they were engineered for. But comparing numbers is usually pretty pointless because of conditions even though most say their dyno is accurate no matter what and can’t be fooled to change output numbers.

The guy who picked up 74wheel sounds like he ran the thing very wisely even using the same gas so nothing to argue there. Should have picked up at least 3 or 4 mph at the track and definitely more than the 2 tenths a tune only typically picks up. I would expect 4 tenths gain which I have seen cars with a pulley do before. Always have outliers though. That’s half the fun
