I bought my 2017 with 12,000 miles back in Oct of 2020. Its Nov 2021 with just over 17000 miles. 5k miles in a year sheesh!

anywhoo I bought the extended MPOAR backed warranty(MOPAR vehicle protection plan) with expiration date of 12/2025 or 85000 miles.

all that said I was taking for granted that a dealer wouldn't extend a warranty offer backed by MOPAR if the PCM had ben "cracked" am I wrong on this? Is there a way we can tell at street level if the PCM has a 1400 code?

Install a stock locked PCM in the car and see if the code shows up.

Did they do the FCA inspection sheet for the extended warranty? Honestly, I really doubt that they check this before a sale. As long as they can't show you that YOU modified it, it's on them as far as I see it.

No sorry, that won't fly. They will void your warranty just the same. This is where buyer beware rears its ugly head again. It's up to you to make sure it's not tuned and there's no code. The selling dealer has absolutely no responsibility to check for a tune and the Company won't care about your plight one bit. You or previous owner screws around with that PCM and it's over.

The same thing also applies to maintenance. These warrantirs require that the maintenance schedule in the Owner's Manual be followed so that means that car better have had an oil change and proof to show it every 6 months from new or they'll drop your engine claim for that.

It's definitely buyer beware for warranty when buying used and the average dealer couldn't care less, their paperwork will likely say something like "remainder of factory warranty, if any" and that's their way out. And aftermarkets usually tag onto the factory warranty so if one is voided the other probably will be too.

I have a good code reader. Is there a way to see if the P1400 has been stored?
Yes I think so but heard often it won't show up if it's running on the tune now. When the dealer reloads the factory tune which they will do, that's when it will show up.

I know I haven't tuned the vehicle that's what I'm trying to determine as if it's ever been tuned. I guess all I can do is hook up the code reader and see what pops up.

I think Ill call the dealership I bought it from. I got real good service form them form beginning to end so Ill see what they say in terms of if a P1400 code was present or if they even scanned the PCM. I suspect they didn't but I don't see how they can NOT be responsible for issues that arise out of warranty issues resulting form past modifications since a MOPAR extended warranty was offered and written assuming the form was filled out by them.

Technically they can't deny anything just for a P1400 code. You could have unplugged the PCM for winter storage for all they know and just doing that will apparently through the code. There is nothing in the warranty guidelines stating that you can't unplug the PCM that I am aware of.
