Feel free to post any tips/experiences with the new system here.

I used my buddy's Phone for Apple car play today. It works quick and fast. My Galaxy Note 4 with Android auto is pretty slow and clunky with the apps. I downloaded a few new apps to try on the Hellcat. One app, Player FM, I use for podcasts tells me I can't scroll through the menu while the cars moving. Another wacky thing is Facebook messages pop up. I can only read the name and not the message or reply. Facebook isn't even supposed to be Android Auto Compatable and the Facebook app doesn't show up on the stereo screen. The best apps so far are Google play and Pandora. Pandora covers the background with the album art. I wish I could delete the controls on the screen and just have an album show. Again the overall screen resolution is amazing.

Does anyone know the part number for the UConnect head unit with Apple CarPlay?

I thought us older models were going to get this update. Is there a way we can add it to a 2015?

So if you buy the radio head it would work then?
Pretty sure its an easy replacement and a plug n play. But big bucks. Not worth it to me for the small improvements.

Just FYI, I did the Apple CarPlay hard ware and program update on my GMC Yukon. What a waste. CarPlay just sucks. It's nothing any better than traditional blue tooth hands free.

No companies are jumping on the Apple CarPlay app list. So... it's really not worth it. Plus the Apple navigation didn't translate to the driver display and heads up like the truck stereo nav does.

Big waste.

Opinions vary from what I read above - but I love my carplay in my 2017 Challenger Hellcat. *far* better than bluetooth. It has more options for one, works with txts better, both listening and replying, (bluetooth doesn't let you do handsfree texting, where as carplay does) and then if you use Spotify or Apple Music, it's amazing. I rode in a buddy's GM and it was different in responsiveness, but it still worked.

As for companies jumping on... a developer has the ability to code for carplay or not. Many apps don't have the option, because carplay wasn't mainstream in 2015/2016 but in 2017/2018 it's everywhere so you'll see more and more. All the big apps for music are carplay compatible now, Spotify, Pandora etc

Carplay makes a difference, no question.

As for the headunits... the 15/16 headunit was made by Alpine for Dodge, the 17 is Panasonic, everything is differentness. ($$$$ to change)

I added 2 Pioneer Carplay units on my other 2 cars and frankly I just end up using bluetooth all the time anyway, so I don't really feel the want for Carply on the Uconnect.
Yep the Carplay limits you severely, but the maps seem to be the advantage. Eh doesnt seem to be what i thought it would.

I connect my Galaxy S6 and use Android Auto with the UConnect. Google maps are tops. Much better than the factory navigation.

The main thing I'd be interested in is Google Maps on the big screen.
Are you on Apple or Android? I can't comment on Android Auto, but Apple CarPlay doesn't support Google Maps, only the Apple Maps app. Probably not a big issue for the average Joe, but something worth noting as Google Maps functionality is a bit better than Apple's version.

I do hands free texting in my 16. It comes with a Uconnect subscription.
