I have misplaced by key fob somewhere in my house and so I want to buy a replacement. I found an OEM key for $1300 Australian dollars and then online from different distributors for $240. So why such a difference in price? and secondly does it need the dealer to program it?

Dealer markup is just abusive. If you buy aftermarket, make sure you can return if it doesn't work.

Yes, Dealer only can program it to your car.

The dealer charged about $350 for getting a new black FOB. I told them I only received one so they made me another one for free. Neither one knew at the time it only came with 1 black key, so now I have 2 sitting in my drawer unused lol.

There's a very capable locksmith near me who can program key fobs.
He's usually half the price of the dealer.

It's worth checking with local locksmiths before paying the dealer organized crime prices.

You are lucky to have a local shop who can do it for a reasonable price. I called around and the all wanted almost as much as the dealer!
