Hey guys have any of you noticed this? I’ve been driving my car pretty hard, went to check my oil and it was a quart low is this normal? The oil was changed at 2750 miles and now has 5200. No low oil light came on. Do you think I harmed my engine?

Anything 0w-40 full synthetic will work just fine. I personally use amsoil its the best out there. And yea later on with more miles your car will burn less and less. Some say it completley stops but I still see a little after 3k miles, and I have around 25k miles on my cat. Nothing to stress about just check it when you can and maybe invest in a Catch can to catch any residual blow bye. I catch a lot!

During break in the engine can consume some oil.

But even past break in an engine can use oil depends upon the engine and how it is used. Lots of idling or the flip side lots of high RPMs can have oil consumption go up.

Ideally you should top up the oil with the same oil that is in the engine. But in an "emergency" in this case Mobil 1 0W-40 is "probably" ok.

But there is no good excuse for getting caught out like that and having to use some other oil.

You need to carry a quart or two of the right oil in the car so you have the right oil in case you need to add oil. I get a plastic tub large enough to hold a couple of quart bottles of oil, some paper towels and other items.

For a new car you need to at first check the oil often. At the start of the day's usage and after every fill up. Once you have a feel for the engine's oil consumption you can dial the oil level checking back some. At some point some miles after the nominal break in miles I'll check the oil level after every fill up. The engine is up to operating temperature and the car is level so the oil level check delivers accurate and repeatable results.

What oil do you use and where do you get it?
