Ive owned my hellcat for 3 months and my odometer is just under 500 miles. Ive been watching my IAT gauge and its insane to me how hot it gets and quick it rises. Ive seen up to 50 degrees above ambient temp. One thing ive noticed is the intake gets extremely hot on the coolant resevoir side. I like the "OEM" look of the car and wanted to keep this as incognito as possible. Once assembled this can not be seen unless you know its there and you look for it.

This is the under hood piece might not do a whole lot but anything helps. Hopefully keeps the radiant heat from the hood out of the intake area.

This was a very cheap mod 25 dollars DEI thermal shield from Autozone. I just finished this tonight and have not had a chance to drive. I will post results as soon as I get to test drive.

so with this mod, I assume you're discerning that the reservoir is the culprit for heating the air, and not the lack of flow out of your engine bay? there's a reason I love the hood on my 16, two big air vents letting all that ambient air escape.

your redeye hood has nothing for flow through, just flow in....

My concern is the 200+ degree coolant resevoir less then an inch from the intake box. Radiant heat is my target.

I have an exposed filter bwoody and in traffic will get as high as 140° IATs, that go down to sub 90° the second it gets moving.

I agree that your coolant has effect on the radiant temps, but to not think the hood is some of the culprit is denial.

The primary reason for the high intake air temperature is the heating of the air from the supercharger.

Under the best of conditions I observed this to be in the 30F range above ambient. The inter cooler coolant temperature was 10F above ambient so there is not much to be gained there.

The liquid cooled charge cooler is not very effective at lowering the intake air temperature but it is better than nothing and good enough.

Adding any insulation just means it will take longer for any heat soak to dissipate as there is more material to hold heat.

Here is what I have gathered so far. Strictly in town driving and 2 country road pulls. I let the car idle with remote start and drove to the gym. Car sat for 45 mins in direct sunlight at 75 degrees. Went for a small test drive after, initial impression is good. I will keep monitoring IATs. Car still gets to about 50 to 55 dregrees above ambient sitting at lights and stop and go traffic. The biggest difference I saw is that under light acceleration or even wot the IAT immediately drops 7 degrees. My current thought is air is being displaced faster then it can heat soak. When I got home car was nice and toasty (cooling fan running) I popped the hood and felt the inner air box area by the coolant resevoir and it is noticebly cooler then before.
