2020 Hellcat Right Rear Suspension Sqeak (Please help!)

3757 Views 48 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  DodgeCares
Ok so I have seen a thread or two on this, but I am not sure anyone had a definitive answer. I like a few others have a 2020 Hellcat with 1500 miles on it, and it developed an annoying creeking/sqeak sound out the right rear. No Worse over bumps, just a constant consistent sound. Quite obvious as you just drive at 20 mph in a neighborhood, you just hear that right rear creeking and sqeaking at a constant rate. I can make the sound pushing down on the right rear of the car as well.

Took it into the dealership and of course they had the "foreman" look at it and its normal "suspension settling". There is no way this is normal. If this is normal I will have to sell it which is the last thing I want to do. I already had the bushings lubed, Now what? I literally cant put up with this sound. I guess try a different dealership? The one I went to wouldn't give me a time of day, and that was after waiting for 3 weeks to get the appointment, plus 2 days to get to it.

As I learned years back with my SRT10 Truck, there is no such thing as an "SRT" mechanic and its the same guy who services the minivan working on your hellcat. And this is was my fear going back into a dodge, but here I am again.

Sorry for being emotional, I just love this car and this sounds is unbearable for the price we pay for these cars. I have a very loud AFE exhaust too, and even that wont cover up this sound!

Any help or guidance is sincerely appreciated.

Any suspension mods? Can you see if any coils are touching metal?
I run a stock suspension set up, no mods. Let me check those coils when I get home tonight and I will let you know. Thanks!
I’m not sure if this will help but it’s worth checking. I had a similar problem on an earlier charger. Directly above the rear end in the center of the car on the driveshaft tunnel there is a bracket that was coming into contact with a metal loop that holds a rubber line. Bending the loop away from the bracket stopped the annoying squeak.
I will definitely check it. Thanks for letting me know. Any ideas are appreciated

I just dont believe that this issue is the suspension breaking in like the dealer told me. I have had alot of cars and never have had a suspension sound go away on its own.
What a coincidence. I have a 2020 with 12000 miles on it, and dropped it off at the dealership a few days ago for a potential intercooler leak. I also was experiencing The Identical squeak you spoke of. They said it was the rear shocks and they are replacing both of them under warranty.
Yes I am starting to think this is a common issue on the 2020. Well i'm glad they agreed to replace your shocks. I made an appointment at a different dealership monday and I am hoping they care enough to fix it as well. Couldn't believe how the first dealership handled it.

Let me know how the shock replacement goes when your done
Thats actually a different sound then what I am hearing on mine. Mine sounds more like a squeaky door hinge that I am constantly opening and closing on the right rear of my car haha. At first I thought it was the sound of the leather rubbing up against something, but as it got worse I quickly realized it was in the suspension. Then when I started to push down on the right side from the trunk and could recreate it I knew I had a bad shock or bearing or something. But dont worry my local dealership says thats NORMAL SUSPENSION SETTLING.

I would have rather them lied and said we dont hear anything, but to hear it and say its normal! that made me even more mad lol. Going to a different dealer Monday and thanks to someone on another thread he sent me his shop ticket from when they fixed this on his so I am hoping they will help me out and tackle the problem. If I have to go to a 3rd dealer to have this taken seriously I am going to lose it!

This is why I dont trust the dealership with the oil changes even. We know they dont drain the cooler and they probably dont use the 0-40 and just grab whatever is on the shelf. I have the lowest opinion possible of dealership services right now because they will employ anyone who will just show up right now. I can do my own oil thankfully but when it comes to getting a warranty repair your stuck as I currently am
Why do they have to drain the cooler?
When you get your oil changed you have to make sure they drain the last few ounces out of the oil cooler where some dirty oil sits. Alot of dealerships fight that it needs to be done but its part of the actual dodge service recommendations.

I got about 8 or 9 ounces out of mine that would have been missed otherwise.

Lots of threads on it. I didnt know about it either until I noticed alot of conversation on here about it. Thanks!
Got my car back from the new dealer I tried today. They are replacing my strut assembly and claim it will fix the sound. Parts will be in in about 10 days. I am so happy they are trying to fix the problem. Wow the first dealer I went to horrible.

Thank you to everyone who chimed in on this

Can you open your hood and point it out? I assumed all you do is pull the drain plug out untill all the oil was drained. Where is this cooler part they must drain also?
You have to remove the plate under your car to get it to it as if you were changing the oil filter. Then the oil cooler is over on the right side. I found pictures on here that helped when I did it the first time. They were great instructions. I will send you a link to the post after I find it later today.

Thanks!

Here is a good picture of the oil cooler. For some reason the pics dont seem to be working on the other link. But those instructions are still great. Here is another picture.
Well unfortunately I got the car back today after a long wait for parts. Strut assembly was replaced still have the same frustrating sound. It is going back in next wed for its third visit under 2000 miles.

I never understand why these techs can't get it right the first time. They just throw stuff at it till something works. You know they weren't sure what it was when the replaced the strut assembly. But it's under warranty so I assume they get paid for every try. Sorry to hear the same thing we hear all the time when you have to take it in. Good luck getting it right, I know you'll be so happy when it happens.

I agree it's frustrating. Sadly I think dealerships lately (not just dodge) are just trying to get your car in and out as quickly as possible and quality gets put to the side. The last 3 appts I have had at two different dealers they tell you how busy they are and you almost get the sense its not going to work out well before you even hand over the keys. But Dodgecares did reach out to me on this chain so credit to them for trying to help. I will file my claim with them and hope that between them and dealership they can find a solution to my problem so I can move on to fully enjoying the car. Thanks everyone I will keep you updated once I know more.

I believe I had the same squeak you're describing. Constant squeaking.. could even hear a squeak upon first sitting down in the car as well as when getting out of the car. Annoying as hell... the culprit was my rear upper control arms.
Thanks for letting me know I will discuss that with my dealer when I go back Wednesday!

Did you get them fixed ok? Car been ok since? How many miles you been since getting it fixed.

thanks!!!
All I did was literally remove and replace them and the problem went away. Been 10k+ miles
Thats great I am glad you got it fixed. I hope to follow.
My 2020 WB 392 is at the dealer for the same squeak you are describing with your HC. I will update this thread if/when they fix my car.
Thanks for letting me know. Please let me know what they diagnose yours as and what they do to fix it and how it goes. Mine is in Wednesday So I will update as well. But now that I know it isnt the strut assembly I bet im out another 15 days from Wednesday waiting on parts if it is the control arm or something.

I will say as I have searched the internet on this issue, it seems to always be a 2020. Wonder why. Thanks all I hope we all fix this.
Hey I wanted to provide an update on this and show you all the right rear sound that has just taken me to the brink of insanity for the first 2500 miles of owning this car. 4 service visits and over 2 months now of appointments. For those that haven't followed, this is on my 2020 hellcat challenger. First dealer said it was normal suspension settling.... the second dealer tried to really help. They replaced the shock/strut assembly. Didn't solve it. Then they went ahead and replaced some bushings. no luck. I asked them to possibly check the control arms as a few have reported problems with that but they didn't seem to think that was it. Then to continue my bad luck they said they would open a claim with chrysler to get help on what to do next but the service manager gets covid and I hear nothing for over 10 days. I guess I will open a claim with dodge cares at this point because i am at a loss. Unless I have the radio up or the windows down it is just horrible. But I get the feeling the dealer thinks i am being picky since nothing is "broken". It is not in my nature to be pushy but this ruined my entire first summer with the car and is why i only drove it so little. Anyways I wanted to post a video. When your driving in the car it sounds like constant high pitch squeaks out of the right rear. But you can also make the sound by pushing down on the right rear of the car. Here is a video of me pushing down on the car with one hand pretty lightly so you can imagine how annoying it is inside the cabin on the road on the road. What would you all guess this is??? If its not a shock, not a bushing, what can it be? Control arm? some kind of spring? Any help is so much appreciated. Here is the video i uploaded to you tube. 2020 Hellcat Right Rear Squeak

Finally got my car back after a month sitting at the dealership. I was in no hurry because I picked up the SS when I dropped off the Charger WB392 for service. No one can find help these days.

The drivers side rear shock some how came loose. No more rattle/squeak!! My issue was something very simple to fix. More than likely the shock was not torqued correctly at the factory.
I am jealous yours is fixed but I am glad for you. I continued to be amazed how bad these dealers are considering I am on my second dealer and like 4 service visits and 2 months. Told me to wait 10 days while they filed a claim with dodge and so I did (whats another 10 days after 2 crappy months) and when i called them today I could tell they were just hoping I forgot about it. I guess I will go to my 3rd dealership and open my own claim but I think this has bothered me so much I will probably just eat the first year depreciation as painful as that is for only getting 2500 miles on it and trade it in to a ZL1 or something. It just really has burned me on dodge. This is why I sold my SRT10 Truck years ago, cant believe this many years later I still can hardly find a dodge dealer that can handle anything but an oil change.

I guess I am picky for not wanting my brand new 75k car to squeak constantly to the point i can hear it over a phone call in my car. I know its probably my fault for not opening my own claim sooner but my dealer told me not to do it and now I see why. They just didn't want dodge to hound them probably.
