2020 Hellcat Right Rear Suspension Sqeak (Please help!)

3737 Views 48 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  DodgeCares
Ok so I have seen a thread or two on this, but I am not sure anyone had a definitive answer. I like a few others have a 2020 Hellcat with 1500 miles on it, and it developed an annoying creeking/sqeak sound out the right rear. No Worse over bumps, just a constant consistent sound. Quite obvious as you just drive at 20 mph in a neighborhood, you just hear that right rear creeking and sqeaking at a constant rate. I can make the sound pushing down on the right rear of the car as well.

Took it into the dealership and of course they had the "foreman" look at it and its normal "suspension settling". There is no way this is normal. If this is normal I will have to sell it which is the last thing I want to do. I already had the bushings lubed, Now what? I literally cant put up with this sound. I guess try a different dealership? The one I went to wouldn't give me a time of day, and that was after waiting for 3 weeks to get the appointment, plus 2 days to get to it.

As I learned years back with my SRT10 Truck, there is no such thing as an "SRT" mechanic and its the same guy who services the minivan working on your hellcat. And this is was my fear going back into a dodge, but here I am again.

Sorry for being emotional, I just love this car and this sounds is unbearable for the price we pay for these cars. I have a very loud AFE exhaust too, and even that wont cover up this sound!

Any help or guidance is sincerely appreciated.

Can you open your hood and point it out? I assumed all you do is pull the drain plug out untill all the oil was drained. Where is this cooler part they must drain also?
You have to remove the plate under your car to get it to it as if you were changing the oil filter. Then the oil cooler is over on the right side. I found pictures on here that helped when I did it the first time. They were great instructions. I will send you a link to the post after I find it later today.

Thanks!

Here is a good picture of the oil cooler. For some reason the pics dont seem to be working on the other link. But those instructions are still great. Here is another picture.
The oil cooler drain is this just for hellcats? Or do the 392s have them? Btw thx for the link

Both have oil coolers but the Hellcat is a different design and only the Hellcat cooler can be drained.

Got my car back from the new dealer I tried today. They are replacing my strut assembly and claim it will fix the sound. Parts will be in in about 10 days. I am so happy they are trying to fix the problem. Wow the first dealer I went to horrible.

Thank you to everyone who chimed in on this

I never understand why these techs can't get it right the first time. They just throw stuff at it till something works. You know they weren't sure what it was when the replaced the strut assembly. But it's under warranty so I assume they get paid for every try. Sorry to hear the same thing we hear all the time when you have to take it in. Good luck getting it right, I know you'll be so happy when it happens.

I agree it's frustrating. Sadly I think dealerships lately (not just dodge) are just trying to get your car in and out as quickly as possible and quality gets put to the side. The last 3 appts I have had at two different dealers they tell you how busy they are and you almost get the sense its not going to work out well before you even hand over the keys. But Dodgecares did reach out to me on this chain so credit to them for trying to help. I will file my claim with them and hope that between them and dealership they can find a solution to my problem so I can move on to fully enjoying the car. Thanks everyone I will keep you updated once I know more.

I believe I had the same squeak you're describing. Constant squeaking.. could even hear a squeak upon first sitting down in the car as well as when getting out of the car. Annoying as hell... the culprit was my rear upper control arms.

Thanks for letting me know I will discuss that with my dealer when I go back Wednesday!

Thanks for letting me know. Please let me know what they diagnose yours as and what they do to fix it and how it goes. Mine is in Wednesday So I will update as well. But now that I know it isnt the strut assembly I bet im out another 15 days from Wednesday waiting on parts if it is the control arm or something.

I will say as I have searched the internet on this issue, it seems to always be a 2020. Wonder why. Thanks all I hope we all fix this.
When I had a rattle on the front of the 2017 HC Challenger I had, they put ears to locate the noise on mine.

Hey I wanted to provide an update on this and show you all the right rear sound that has just taken me to the brink of insanity for the first 2500 miles of owning this car. 4 service visits and over 2 months now of appointments. For those that haven't followed, this is on my 2020 hellcat challenger. First dealer said it was normal suspension settling.... the second dealer tried to really help. They replaced the shock/strut assembly. Didn't solve it. Then they went ahead and replaced some bushings. no luck. I asked them to possibly check the control arms as a few have reported problems with that but they didn't seem to think that was it. Then to continue my bad luck they said they would open a claim with chrysler to get help on what to do next but the service manager gets covid and I hear nothing for over 10 days. I guess I will open a claim with dodge cares at this point because i am at a loss. Unless I have the radio up or the windows down it is just horrible. But I get the feeling the dealer thinks i am being picky since nothing is "broken". It is not in my nature to be pushy but this ruined my entire first summer with the car and is why i only drove it so little. Anyways I wanted to post a video. When your driving in the car it sounds like constant high pitch squeaks out of the right rear. But you can also make the sound by pushing down on the right rear of the car. Here is a video of me pushing down on the car with one hand pretty lightly so you can imagine how annoying it is inside the cabin on the road on the road. What would you all guess this is??? If its not a shock, not a bushing, what can it be? Control arm? some kind of spring? Any help is so much appreciated. Here is the video i uploaded to you tube. 2020 Hellcat Right Rear Squeak
